Congress raises dropping of Preamble from NCERT textbooks, Nadda says govt committed to Constitution
Opposition Congress party on Wednesday raised in Rajya Sabha the issue of dropping of Preamble to the Constitution from certain NCERT textbooks saying this was an attempt to impose communal ideology on the country — a claim which Union Minister J P Nadda countered saying the government was committed to protecting the constitution. Raising the issue, Leader of the Opposition and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said Preamble, which is the soul and foundation of the Indian Constitution, used to be published in NCERT textbooks. The objectives stated by the Preamble are to secure justice, liberty, equality to all citizens and promote fraternity to maintain unity and integrity of the nation, he said and went on to read the debate in Constituent Assembly in November 1948, where it was argued that political democracy in the country should also be made a social democracy. «Political democracy cannot last unless there lies at the base of it social democracy. What does social democracy mean? It means a way of life which recognizes liberty, equality and fraternity as the principles of life,» he quoted from the debate.

Muhammad Yunus: Why did Bangladesh pick a banker who had major tiff with Sheikh Hasina?
Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the head of Bangladesh's interim government by President Mohammed Shahabuddin. The decision, made during a meeting on August 6 night between President Shahabuddin and the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, aims to fill the leadership void created by the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The heads of Bangladesh's three armed forces were also present at the meeting. Muhammad Yunus, known as the «banker to the poorest of the poor,» is stepping into this role years after a significant fallout with Hasina. Yunus was removed from his position as head of Grameen Bank in 2011 by Hasina's government, which led to widespread public outrage. Thousands of Bangladeshis protested his removal by forming a human chain. Now, the banker who had a tiff with Sheikh Hasina, is the one who will fulfill the duties of the ousted PM of Bangladesh as the head of the interim government.

Why do Black Pennsylvania voters think Kamala Harris is not Black? Was Donald Trump right to question her Black identity?
Donald Trump right to say that his political rival Kamala Harris was not a Black woman? This was not the first time that the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother had faced such a racial question. But a White Republican candidate must raise this question about the presumptive Democrat candidate just before the US Presidential Election 2024. However, the question of Black identity took a new twist when some Black male voters in Pennsylvania said that they didn’t consider the vice president to be Black before Trump's comments.
