EU court takes Russian billionaires Fridman, Aven off sanctions list
European Union Court of Justice ruled on Wednesday to remove Russian billionaires Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven from a list of individuals facing European Union sanctions after Russia's attack on Ukraine in 2022. «The General Court considers that none of the reasons set out in the initial acts is sufficiently substantiated and that the inclusion of Mr Aven and Mr Fridman on the lists at issue was therefore not justified,» the Luxembourg-based court said in a statement.

BJP banking on ex-IPS officer Debasish Dhar to halt TMC's juggernaut in West Bengal's Birbhum
BJP has sprung a surprise in West Bengal's Birbhum constituency, pitting former IPS officer Debasish Dhar, who was suspended by the Mamata Banerjee government after the 2021 assembly elections, in a bid to halt TMC's Satabdi Roy from winning a fourth consecutive term. The absence of TMC's former Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal, whose strong-arm tactics and controversial comments lent both fear and colour to the political scene here, seems to have made the electoral atmosphere a little lacklustre, but the BJP is seeing a level-playing field, owing to the new scenario. Mondal was arrested by the CBI in 2022 in a money laundering case related to cattle smuggling in West Bengal. He is at present lodged in Delhi's Tihar jail. A political novice, Dhar has been entrusted with the onerous task of putting brakes on the actor-politician from emerging triumphant again in Birbhum in the western part of the state.

For military vets, pvt security is a lucrative second act. It can also be deadly
The killing of three private security contractors in last week’s Israeli strike on an aid convoy in Gaza shined light on an industry that in recent years has shifted from working for military forces to helping protect humanitarian organizations that operate in conflict zones. John Chapman, James Henderson and James Kirby—employees of Solace Global, a U.K.-based security and risk-management company—were among seven who were killed when Israeli drone strikes hit the convoy organized by World Central Kitchen, a humanitarian group founded by chef José Andrés.

'Surgical strikes' by central agencies must to curb anti-national activities in Bengal: Dilip Ghosh
Dilip Ghosh believes that under the TMC regime, West Bengal is sitting on a ticking time bomb and security and central agencies need to conduct «surgical strikes» to curb anti-national activities in the bordering state. In an interview with PTI, Ghosh expressed concern over a deep-rooted nexus of financial scams and terror modules in the state and predicted heightened activities by central agencies after the elections are over. «West Bengal, a bordering state, has witnessed not only a deteriorating law and order situation but also incidents detrimental to national security. Uncovering of bomb-making factories and terror modules indicate that Bengal has become a haven for infiltrators and anti-national elements,» he said. Asserting that a significant demographic shift in border areas due to TMC's alleged politics of appeasement, Ghosh claimed that national security is at stake under the Trinamool regime, since the ruling party lacks control over the state's affairs.

Mori assured McCall that Nippon Steel would offer commitments to invest more than $1 billion in the iconic American company while also promising no idling of plants and, most importantly to its workers, no immediate layoffs.
