Kirron Kher, who secured victories for the BJP in Chandigarh in both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has been replaced by Sanjay Tandon for the upcoming polls.
Sanjay Tandon, currently serving as the co-in charge of the Himachal Pradesh BJP, boasts a long-standing association with the BJP in Chandigarh. With nearly a decade-long tenure as the city party president, Tandon brings significant experience to his new candidacy.
The selection of the BJP's candidate for the Chandigarh seat followed a deliberative process. The city party unit forwarded the names of former MP Satya Pal Jain, along with ex-party presidents Sanjay Tandon and Arun Sood, to the party's high command for consideration. This move came after Manthri Srinivasulu, the general secretary (organisation) for Punjab and Chandigarh, conducted individual meetings with local leaders and councillors on February 26 to gauge their preferences for the seat.
The BJP's decision to nominate Sanjay Tandon for the Chandigarh seat signals a strategic shift in its electoral approach, setting the stage for an intriguing contest in the Union Territory.
