Gold price today: Gold rate dips from all-time peak. Check latest value
Gold price on Wednesday fell, as some profit-booking kicked in after prices scaled a record peak, while focus shifted to U.S. Federal Reserve policy decision due later in the day. Spot gold fell 0.2 per cent to $3,027.89 an ounce, as of 0930 GMT, after hitting an all-time peak of $3,045.24 earlier in the session. U.S. gold futures shed 0.1 per cent to $3,036.60. There is a possibility of profit booking because the price rally was quite sharp, but «it's possible for prices to move beyond $3,050 level driven by market fears in terms of geopolitics,» said Soni Kumari, a commodity strategist at ANZ. Gold, considered a safe investment amid periods of uncertainties, has scaled 15 record highs so far this year. Investors are worried about an economic slowdown and elevated risks of recession due to U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policy. While, conflict in the Israel has resumed after attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Canada under siege: Is Trump planning a 'Canschluss'?
To grasp the aberration of US foreign policy under President Donald Trump, consider an abbreviated history of America’s shifting attitudes toward just one country, Canada. And start with Ronald Reagan, who stood for the original and genuine version of “peace through strength.” When signing a free-trade agreement with Canada in 1988, Reagan marveled at the world’s longest land border. “No soldier stands guard to protect it,” the 40th president said. “Barbed wire does not deface it. And no invisible barrier of economic suspicion and fear will extend it.” Canadians and Americans, Reagan remarked on another occasion, are “more than friends and neighbors and allies; we are kin.” In the current context, three things are notable about Reagan’s sentiments. The first is that most Americans really like Canadians, even if they also struggle to see them as distinct, because Canadians can easily seem like “nicer” versions of Americans. The second is that Reagan oversimplified what has historically been a complicated, often competitive and sometimes contentious relationship. The third is that Americans, in both of those ways, have long regarded Canadians roughly as Russians used to view Ukrainians. ALSO READ: Who is James Boasberg, the judge Trump wants impeached?

US suspends some efforts to counter Russian sabotage as Trump moves closer to Putin
Russian sabotage, disinformation and cyberattacks, easing pressure on Moscow as the Trump Administration pushes Russia to end its war in Ukraine. Former President Joe Biden last year ordered his national security team to establish working groups to monitor the issue amid warnings from U.S. intelligence that Russia was escalating a shadow war against Western nations. The plan was led by the president's National Security Council (NSC) and involved at least seven national security agencies working with European allies to disrupt plots targeting Europe and the United States, seven former officials who participated in the working groups told Reuters. Before President Donald Trump was inaugurated, his incoming administration was briefed by Biden officials about the efforts and urged to continue monitoring Russia's hybrid warfare campaign, the former U.S. officials said. However, since Trump took office on Jan. 20 much of the work has come to a standstill, according to eleven current and former officials, all of whom requested anonymity to discuss classified matters. Reuters is the first to report on the full extent of the Biden administration effort and how multiple different U.S. agencies have since paused their work on the issue.
