How ElevenLabs enabled AI-powered dubbing for PM Modi's Lex Fridman interview
Narendra Modi's chat with MIT scientist and American podcaster Lex Fridman made headlines for many reasons. The prime minister made comments supporting US president Donald Trump, lauded Elon Musk and his mission with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and much more. He also spoke about artificial intelligence (AI) and what it can enable. Interestingly, the technology, now indispensable in any sector, was working its magic in that interview itself. The podcast was dubbed by voice-based generative AI startup ElevenLabs. Using AI voice cloning technology, the company provided authentic voices of PM Modi and Fridman in Hindi and English, even achieving their intonations, emotions, and style of speech.

China conducts air, sea drills near Taiwan, blaming recent statements by US, Taiwanese leaders
The ministry on Tuesday published on its social media several images of Chinese drones and ships and said 43 out of 59 of them entered Taiwan's air defence identification zone but that no confrontations were reported. Taiwan monitored the situation and deployed aircraft, navy ships and coastal anti-ship missile defences in response, the ministry said. China launches such missions on a daily basis in hopes of wearing down Taiwanese defences and morale, although the vast majority of the island's 23 million people reject Beijing's claim of sovereignty over Taiwan and its threat to use force to assert its control. It's unclear what prompted the large Chinese deployment. Daily figures often vary widely based on statements by the Taiwanese authorities or their US partners.

Israel consulted US on its strikes in Gaza, White House told Fox News
«The Trump administration and the White House were consulted by the Israelis on their attacks in Gaza tonight,» White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a Fox News interview. Palestinian medics in Gaza reported dozens of people were killed in the aftermath of a series of the most violent air attacks by Israel on the Palestinian enclave since a ceasefire was reached on January 19 between Israel and Hamas militants. A senior Hamas official said Israel had unilaterally overturned the ceasefire agreement. «As President Trump has made it clear — Hamas, the Houthis, Iran, all those who seek to terrorize not just Israel, but also the United States of America, will see a price to pay. All hell will break loose,» the White House spokesperson said.

Indian semiconductor companies eye global talent to spearhead operations
The moves come as India Inc faces a severe dearth of C-suite talent in the semiconductor space due to the absence of any fab or a robust semiconductor ecosystem in the country, leaving these companies to rely exclusively on hiring expats for senior roles, the experts said. For instance, Tata Electronics tapped Intel's Foundry Services president Randhir Thakur as its CEO and MD while Murugappa Group's CG Semi roped in Filipino semiconductor industry veteran Jerry Arucan Agnes as CEO. The extended list includes past hires such as Vedanta which hired David Reed as CEO of semiconductor business and YJ Chen as CEO of display business in 2023.

Supriya Sule’s scathing attack on Dhananjay Munde: ‘Feel it’s better that the party got split’
Nationalist Congress Party Leader Dhananjay Munde, Supriya Sule said that she felt that it was better that the party had split as she could not bear to work with Munde. «Sometimes I feel it was better that the party got split. Because if I had remained in the party then I could not have remained (in the party)… The world knows about my stand. The man who can plant a gun in his wife’s car, who is the mother of his children, I can’t work with such a man,” said Sule while addressing party workers in Pune on Sunday. Sule, the National Working President of the Sharad Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party claimed that the fight in the NCP leadership began over expelling people like Munde. She further added, “The fight (in the party) began since then, I am revealing all this now. I am not afraid of anyone.”said Sule. While Sule did not name Munde, it is no secret as to who she was referring to as Munde’s estranged second wife Karuna Munde was arrested in September 2021 in Beed by the police who claimed that they had recovered a gun from the car. Sule’s remarks against Munde are significant as in social media there have been images circulating of an unidentified man placing an object in Karuna Munde’s car when she was in Beed to campaign against Munde.

Big worry for Donald Trump! Key economic rating falls to negative. What does this mean?
New York State plummeted this month by the most in nearly two years, a survey showed on Monday, with new orders falling sharply and input prices climbing at the fastest rate in more than two years in the latest sign the economy may be weakening, as per a report. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York said its Empire State manufacturing index plunged by nearly 26 points — the largest drop since May 2023 — to a reading of negative 20.0 from positive 5.7 in February, Reuters reported. The reading was lower than all 26 forecasts in a Reuters poll of economists, which had a median expectation of minus 1.50. «New orders and shipments declined,» the report said. «Input prices increased at the fastest pace in more than two years, and selling price increases also continued to pick up. Optimism about the outlook waned considerably for a second consecutive month.» It was the latest survey to paint a picture of a weakening factory sector struggling to adjust to President Donald Trump's roll-out of tariffs on a rapidly widening range of imported goods. Trump on Monday repeated his threat that more tariffs are coming in early April, and he reiterated that he had no intention of granting exemptions for the hefty levies on steel and aluminum imports that went into effect last week.

Trump tariffs on lumber and appliances set stage for higher costs on new homes and remodeling projects
Trump administration's tariffs on imported goods from Canada, Mexico and China — some already in place, others set to take effect in a few weeks — are already driving up the cost of building materials used in new residential construction and home remodeling projects. The tariffs are projected to raise the costs that go into building a single-family home in the US by USD 7,500 to USD 10,000, according to the National Association of Home Builders. Such costs are typically passed along to the homebuyer in the form of higher prices, which could hurt demand at a time when the US housing market remains in a slump and many builders are having to offer buyers costly incentives to drum up sales. We Buy Houses in San Francisco, which purchases foreclosed homes and then typically renovates and sells them, is increasing prices on its refurbished properties between 7 per cent and 12 per cent. That's even after saving USD 52,000 in costs by stockpiling 62 per cent more Canadian lumber than usual. «The uncertainty of how long these tariffs will continue has been the most challenging aspect of our planning,» said CEO Mamta Saini.

India's trade deficit narrows to $14.05 bn in February from January’s $22.9 bn
Economists had expected the February trade deficit to ease to $21.65 billion, according to a Reuters poll. India’s exports last month were affected, with concerns growing about the looming effects of Trump's proposed tariffs, according to government sources cited by Reuters. In addition to this, geopolitical risks, especially concerns over tariffs, will continue to influence trade dynamics, as per a UBI report. The reduction in the merchandise trade deficit was mainly driven by a moderation in the Non-Oil-Non-Gold (NONG) segment, supported by seasonal factors during the quarter, the report added.
