US inflation slows, fed rate cuts expected
US inflation likely continued to slow at the start of the year, helping to feed expectations that the Federal Reserve will find interest-rate cuts more palatable in the coming months. The core consumer price index, a measure that excludes food and fuel for a better picture of underlying inflation, is seen increasing 3.7% in January from a year earlier. That would mark the smallest year-over-year advance since April 2021, and underscore the inroads Fed Chair Jerome Powell and his colleagues have made in beating back inflation.

ET Now GBS 2024: Work-life balance top priority of young workers over being a CEO
young workers prioritise work-life-balance over being a chief executive, said Tapan Singhel, chief executive, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance at the summit on Saturday during a panel discussion on «Power Shifts to Profits: The Age of Meritocracy». «Being a CEO is not their (young people's) life anymore,» he added, and there has been a generational transition from the concept of "work is worship" towards work-life balance. He mentioned Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy's comments on working 70 hours a week, while pointing out that developed countries like Germany are experimenting with a four-day work week. «Most young workers consider work life balance important, » Singhel said.

EVM vs paper ballot: Can Pakistan's 'rigged' and delayed poll results serve as lesson for Indian politicians?
Follow Pakistan Election Results 2024 Live here "EVM had paper ballots that could be counted separately by hand (like it is being done today) BUT it also had a simple electronic calculator/counter of each vote button pressed. Totals of every candidate would have been available & printed within five minutes of the closing of the poll. The entire effort that included more than 50 meetings at the Presidency alone was scuttled," Arif Alvi tweeted.

Independent observer monitoring Pakistan elections highlight grey areas in poll process
Pakistan elections on Saturday highlighted various grey areas in the recently held polls, noting the failure of presiding officers in providing Form 45 to observers at 29 per cent of the polling stations. Form 45, commonly referred to as the «Result of the Count» form, is a crucial record in the Pakistani electoral process which is intended to uphold openness and accountability by documenting and disclosing the outcomes of the voting procedure at a particular polling place. Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) spokesperson Musarrat Qadeem, quoting the initial report on the election, in a press conference said: «The failure to display copies of Form 45, as required, in 29 per cent of polling stations was a notable oversight.»

RLD's Jayant Singh praises Modi govt for Bharat Ratna to Chaudhary Charan Singh
RLD joining BJP-led NDA ahead of the general elections, the regional party leader Jayant Singh on Saturday praised the Modi government for honouring his grandfather and former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh with Bharat Ratna. He said that only a government «rooted to ground realties» could have taken such a decision. As soon as Singh started thanking the government for the honour in Rajya Sabha, Congress members objected and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge wanted to know the rule under which the RLD leader was allowed to speak. Kharge said it is a matter of pride and he «salutes» former prime ministers P V Narasimha Rao and Charan Singh and agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan, all of whom are being conferred with Bharat Ratna.

"PM Modi's caste wasn't recommended for OBC list by Mandal Commission": Gehlot backs Rahul's claim
Rahul Gandhi that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not an OBC as he was born into the general category, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said the latter's caste was not included in Other Backward Classes (OBC) list as per the recommendations made by Mandal Commission and Bakshi Committee. In a post on X, Ashok Gehlot said, «Rahul Gandhi has spoken the truth on the issue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inclusion in OBC because Modi/Ghanchi caste was not included in OBC list in the recommendations of Mandal Commission and Bakshi Committee, which was formed in 1978 for backward classes in Gujarat. His caste was that of a business community in the entire country. People from Jain, Maheshwari, and Agarwal communities commonly use the Modi surname.» Gehlot further said if PM Modi considers himself as the biggest supporter of the OBC community, then he shoudl have a nationwide caste census conducted at the earliest.
