Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of 84 major developmental projects worth more than Rs 1500 crore in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. According to a PMO release, the inaugurations will include projects related to road infrastructure, water supply schemes, and infrastructure in higher education etc. Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for projects like the improvement of the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri Section, the development of Industrial Estates and the construction of six Government Degree Colleges.

monetised assets worth Rs 1.56 lakh crore in 2023-24 as against the target of Rs 1.8 lakh crore under the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP), taking the total monetisation to Rs 3.85 lakh crore in three years since the launch of the programme in 2020-21, NITI Aayog said on Wednesday. Under the NMP, the government had envisaged monetising assets worth Rs 6 lakh crore during the four year period from 2021-22 to 2024-25. Cumulative monetisation in 2021-22 and 2022-23 stood at Rs 2.30 lakh crore as against the target of Rs 2.5 lakh crore. According to the Aayog, the ministry of road transport and highways and the ministry of coal were the top two achievers with a total monetisation receipts of Rs 97,000 crore.

Vedanta to spend $5 bln on decarbonization; to be net neutral by 2050
Vedanta Ltd is planning to spend $5 billion over the next decade as it looks to cut its carbon emissions by a fourth by 2030. The natural resources major eventually aims to be net neutral on carbon emissions by 2050. It will have 2.5 GW of renewable energy round-the-clock by 2030, of which 838 MW is currently under construction. The company is also targeting decarbonizing its complete light motor vehicle fleet by 2030, and three-fourth of its mining fleet by 2035, it shared in its annual report for 2023-24 (Apr-Mar). Last year, the company has invested $210 million on decarbonisation, and 7% of its light motor vehicle fleet was decarbonized. The company aims to achieve 50% decarbonization by the end of the current fiscal.

Consumption data lays bare India’s deep inequality
₹16,612 per head per month, which is 3.1 times what the median person spends, according to a Mint analysis of the 2022-23 Household Consumption Expenditure Survey. In rural areas, the top 10% spends ₹8,569, compared to a median of ₹3,268, a gap of 2.6 times. On the surface, both urban and rural inequalities have declined since the last available survey from 2011-12, with a sharper decline in urban areas.

On the way: Production of Bitumen using biomass
bio-bitumen from biomass or agricultural waste, a move that would help reduce imports of the material used for asphalting of roads while also addressing the persistent issue of stubble burning. India currently imports about half of its annual requirement of bitumen and the target is to replace imports with bio-bitumen over the next 10 years, a senior government official told ET. «Based on the success of the pilot study, we hope to kick-start production of bio-bitumen on a large scale by the end of 2025,» the official added. The Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) will soon undertake a pilot study with the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun on a 1-km road stretch which will be built using bio-bitumen. If successful, the technology will be commercialised and transferred to a private entity or public sector enterprises for large-scale production of bio-bitumen, to be used in the construction of national highways.
