BRICS FMs call for inclusion of India-Brazil-South Africa in UNSC
Brics (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) nations on Thursday called for comprehensive reforms of the United Nations (UN) and advocated the inclusion of India, South Africa and Brazil in its Security Council (UNSC). At the last Brics Summit in Johannesburg, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had supported such a move, warning that without such reforms, fragmentation of the UN body would be inevitable. The ministers recalled their national positions concerning the conflict in and around Ukraine as expressed at the appropriate fora, including the UN Security Council and General Assembly, and noted with appreciation relevant proposals of mediation and good offices aimed at peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy," the statement said. On the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the nations’ further reaffirmed the call for donor countries to honour their Official Development Assistance (ODA) to developing countries, in line with the national policy objectives of recipients. The ministers announced the nations are exploring the establishment of an effective global governance framework with the aim to protect human rights and spur innovation and economic growth. The nations also called upon advanced economies to operationalise the fund on Loss and Damage at the upcoming COP28 environmental meet in Dubai. The fund was touted as a historic breakthrough in negotiations at last year's COP27 meet, and aims to provide financial assistance to nations most vulnerable and impacted by the effects of climate change. But differences have since erupted over which nations can access it, with reports that India may not be able to benefit from it. The ministers

Anant Singhal on state of Indian aviation industry, pilot shortages and more
Anant Singhal, Team Lead, CAPA India, says “in the first quarter of the fiscal, the airlines witnessed very strong yields. In the current fiscal ending this month, there was a dip of about 15% to 17%. Coming to the next quarter, it again will be robust because demand will increase and we expect some upward swing in fares and in the yields that airlines earn.”There have been a lot of issues related to the aviation industry of late, flight cancellations, pilot resignations. What is indicative of the Indian aviation sector? Will we tide over it soon enough? Before I answer your question, I would like to provide some context. Right now, we have about 135 aircraft of Indian carriers that are grounded. Now, with that in mind, the pilot shortage that we would have expected is somewhat better, because 135 aircraft are on ground. As and when these aircraft start flying again and new inductions come in, the challenge of pilot shortage will likely go up and a lot of airlines are expected to face challenges with this area. Right now, it seems to be somewhat manageable, although lately because of the 40 resignations, about 80% of the schedule had to be cancelled. But overall, from the industry perspective, the issue of shortage of pilots is somewhat manageable, but when these aircraft start flying again it will start creating challenges for the industry.

3 stocks Nithya Balasubramanian is bullish on from pharma sector
«If you look at what Teva has been saying, what Viatris has been saying, I think all of them are consistently calling out that the pricing environment is softer this year. And on top of that, as you were talking about, we are seeing some supply disruptions in the market,» says Nithya Balasubramanian, Sanford Bernstein.Let us first address the so-called elephant in the room and that has always been U.S. markets. Has pricing erosion further eased? What is the situation when it comes to the drug and the injectable shortage? I mean, is there more to the ray of light for trade generics?See, in the US, we do see pricing deflation has softened, especially compared to last year. We think pricing deflation was trending at minus 15, minus 20%, even depending on the portfolio. And we think that is down to low single digits this year. And I think that is now being consistent commentary from most of the players, most of the Indian generic companies, as well as some of the global MNCs as well. If you look at what Teva has been saying, what Viatris has been saying, I think all of them are consistently calling out that the pricing environment is softer this year. And on top of that, as you were talking about, we are seeing some supply disruptions in the market.
