Army shouldn't be involved in politics: Former IAF chief RKS Bhadauria slams Rahul Gandhi
Indian Air Force chief RKS Bhadauria on Thursday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for raising questions on the Agniveer scheme and demanded that he apologise for accusing Defence Minister Rajnath Singh of lying about giving compensation to the next of kin of Agniveer Ajay Kumar, who lost his life in the line of duty. This came a day after the Indian Army rejected claims in social media posts that compensation hasn't been paid to the next of kin of Agniveer Ajay Kumar, who lost his life in the line of duty, and said his family has already been given Rs 98.39 lakh out of the due amount. The total amount will be Rs 1.65 crore approximately, it said in the «clarification» on Wednesday that came after Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi shared on X a video purportedly of Ajay's father, who stated that they had not received any money.

China dials up scrutiny of Big Four audit firms after Evergrande probe, sources say
China's Ministry of Finance is conducting more rigorous checks of work done by the Big Four auditing firms for local companies, three people with knowledge of the matter said, amid concerns auditors are not doing enough to uncover corporate wrongdoing. The tighter scrutiny, which has not been previously reported, is mainly focused on Deloitte, EY, PwC, KPMG and their audits of some financial firms as well as highly leveraged companies, said the people. It began a couple of months ago and comes in the wake of a regulatory probe into «intermediaries» for property giant China Evergrande Group, which refers to auditors, rating agencies and other providers of financial services.

Court allows Arvind Kejriwal's wife access to his medical records, permits her to seek doctors' advice
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita access to his medical records and also permitted her to independently consult and seek advice from the medical board or doctors on his behalf. The court, however, rejected Kejriwal's application seeking directions to prison authorities allowing Sunita Kejriwal to be his attendant during consultations with doctors. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja said Kejriwal had not been admitted to a hospital and according to Delhi Prison Rules, permission was granted to a family member as an attendant with an undertrial prisoner by the jail superintendent in consultation with the medical officer in-charge, only when the prisoner is admitted in hospital. «This court sees no reason to carve out an exception for the applicant (Kejriwal) by going against the prison rules, more particularly in view of the submission of the jail authorities that several other inmates are also undergoing treatment for the same ailment as the applicant and who have not been permitted to have an attendant,» the court said.

EV companies seek stability in incentives ahead of FAME-III rollout
government scheme to promote adoption of electric vehicles, sections of EV makers said this time they wanted a subsidy policy with a definite timeline, rather than one that would be abruptly cut off like the previous one. «New changes are too sudden, especially for the automobile industry with its long lead times. We would want the new subsidy regime to last for at least two to three years to truly benefit the industry,» Amitabh Saran, chief executive of electric three-wheeler maker Altigreen, told ET. The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme was originally launched in 2015 to encourage the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles. Under it, a subsidy was provided to EV makers who used it to lower the prices of their products. The second edition, FAME-II, was introduced in 2019 and went on till March 2024 when it was scrapped. There has since been a steep slowdown in EV sales, according to a report by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations.

MHA adopted 72% of 111 suggestions on criminal laws by House panel: Officials
criminal laws, Home ministry officials said that MHA has incorporated 72% of 111 suggestions made by the Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) which examined the draft laws in August 2023. «The PSC forwarded its recommendations to the MHA on November 10, 2023. MHA has incorporated most of the suggestions given by PSC and out of 111 observations, MHA has incorporated around 72% of them,» the officials said. The remaining suggestions were either in terms of observations of the Committee or the existing provisions in the Bills were already meeting the suggestions of PSC. The old set of Bills were subsequently recalled and, after incorporating suggestions and feedback, the current three Bills were tabled, they added. MHA has initiated steps towards preparing the existing organs of the Criminal Justice System to successfully adapt themselves to these new laws. As per officials, «these measures would require training at all levels in the police, vast improvement of forensic capabilities at all levels, evolving best practices for adopting technological solutions at police station and court levels, preparing various guidelines on initiatives like Witness Protection Scheme, etc. Further, commensurate capacity building steps have to be undertaken by all states and UTs».
