Why has Microsoft decided to provide iPhones to Chinese employees who use Android smartphones?
Microsoft has asked its employees working in China to use only iPhones for work. According to Bloomberg, the Bill Gates-founded company asked hundreds of its employees to verify their identities through the Microsoft Authenticator password manager and the Identity Pass app, available on Apple devices. As Google's mobile services, including its Google Play app store, are not available in China, the company blocked employees from using Android devices to access its corporate platforms. Consequently, Apple's App Store remains the only place for Microsoft employees in China to download and use the Microsoft Authenticator and Identity Pass apps.

How over-indulgent parents hurt their finances for their children
Such parents repeatedly tell children that their lives are dedicated to them. Many are prepared to do whatever it takes to provide what they think is the best for their children. This indulgence begins with birthday parties and treats, moves on to coaching classes and courses of choice, and extends to setting them up and subsidising their adult lives. The less we talk about lavish weddings, the better. Financial planners indicate that children’s education is the top financial goal for most parents. They save aggressively to make this happen. They work well beyond providing reasonably for their children. A combination of factors is at play: parents want their dreams fulfilled by children; they relive their lives through them; they compete in social circles over the accomplishments of their children; they believe that indulging every whim is a mark of good parenting; they suffer the guilt of being away at work and try to make it up to them, opening the door for manipulation. The list that blames the parents is fairly long.

Broadcasters move NCLAT against Google fees on apps
IBDF), a body of television broadcasters and OTT platforms, Friday sought relief from the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) against an interim order by the antitrust regulator that had refused to restrain Google from imposing service fees on app developers. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) had in March refused to grant the applicant and some others interim relief from Google's app payment policies until it reached a final verdict. The IBDF's counsel has now urged the NCLAT to stop Google from collecting fees on the transactions of apps listed on the Google Play Store, including for paid app downloads and in-app purchases.

Budget 2024: This is what the housing industry is expecting from the FM
₹2 lakh per year to ₹5 lakh to add momentum to housing demand.- Long-Term Capital Gains: Bring long-term capital gains at 10% on par with equity shares.- Municipal Charges: Exclude municipal charges from the purview of GST.- GST Reduction: Reduce GST on under-construction properties to make homes more affordable.- Redefine Affordable Housing: Broaden the definition of affordable housing to expand the benefits for homebuyers, thereby boosting end-user demand.- Interest Subsidy: Provide an interest subsidy for first-time homebuyers to boost sales in the real estate sector.- Introduce tax exemptions for rental income to encourage greater investment in residential real estate.4. Industry Status & Budgetary Support:- Industry Status: Grant “Industry" status to the housing sector to incentivize growth and attract significant investment.- Budgetary Allocation: Allocate funds from the Special Window for Affordable and Mid-Income Housing (SWAMIH) fund in the upcoming union budget for FY 2024-2025 with relaxations, including allowing input tax credit under GST and providing incentives for rental housing to achieve the housing-for-all targets.By addressing these expectations, the industry will not only drive growth in the real estate sector but also stimulate demand in various ancillary industries, thereby boosting job creation across these sectors.Overall, the hope is for policy measures that foster sustainable growth and address key challenges facing the industry in the upcoming budget. The author, Pramod Kathuria is Founder and CEO of Easiloan.Disclaimer: The views and recommendations above are those of individual analysts, experts and broking companies, not of Mint. Earth's inner core slows down: New research unveils 70-year cycle
Earth's inner core, a solid metal ball spinning independently within the planet, has significantly slowed down. Published in the journal Nature, these findings reveal a 70-year cycle in the core's rotational speed, providing critical insights into the complex dynamics of Earth's interior. Challenges of Studying the Inner Core Studying Earth's deep interior directly is impossible. Seismologists gather information by examining the behavior of seismic waves from large earthquakes that reach the inner core. Differences in these waves, observed at different times, allow scientists to measure changes in the core's position and calculate its spin.
