Rework India’s investment treaty framework to attract FDI flows
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. The Indian budget announcement of a revamped model Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) to make it more investor-friendly is a delayed acknowledgement of the framework having failed to achieve its core objectives. Since its adoption in 2015, India has signed agreements with only five countries—Belarus (2018), Kyrgyzstan (2019), Brazil (2020), the UAE (2024) and Uzbekistan (2024), highlighting challenges in securing BITs with key trade partners and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) flows.

Only 80 temples destroyed under Muslim rule, claims Owaisi
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday cited the works of American historian Richard M Eaton to claim that only 80 temples were destroyed during the «Muslim rule» in medieval India, while thousands of places of worship were demolished under several Hindu emperors. «They say everywhere in media that temples were demolished 400 years ago. Richard M Eaton (American historian) writes in his book 'Temple Desecration and Muslim States in Medieval India' that 80 temples were destroyed from the 11th century until 1600 — during Muslim rule,» Owaisi said while addressing a gathering at the 67th revival anniversary of AIMIM. He stated that Pushyamitra Shunga, who was the founder of the Shunga empire, demolished thousands of places of worship that belonged to Buddhists.

UK launches review to provide working definition of Islamophobia
UK has launched a new review led by a former Opposition Conservative Party minister into anti-Muslim hate to provide the Labour Party government with a working definition of Islamophobia. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner said on Friday that former attorney general Dominic Grieve will bring his years of legal and government expertise to the role, which will also support a wider stream of work to tackle the «unacceptable incidents» of anti-Muslim hate crimes hitting the highest number on record in 2024. The new working group has been tasked to deliver a definition of anti-Muslim hatred, referred to as Islamophobia, within six months. «The rise in anti-Muslim hate crime is unacceptable and has no place in our society,» said Rayner, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).

Struggling to meet your protein goals? Here are simple yet effective ways to boost your daily intake
Experts recommend that the average adult consume between 0.8 and 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight. For instance, if you weigh around 68 kg (150 pounds), you should aim for 55-68 grams of protein daily. For those who are highly active, such as athletes, weightlifters or people with physically demanding jobs, increasing protein intake can be beneficial. Similarly, older adults at risk of muscle loss (sarcopenia) may require additional protein to maintain strength.

US consumer spending falls in January; monthly inflation rises
inflation could provide cover for the Federal Reserve to delay cutting interest rates for some time. Consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, dropped 0.2% last month after an upwardly revised 0.8% increase in December, the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis said on Friday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast consumer spending gaining 0.1% after a previously reported 0.7% surge in December, when outlays were boosted by pre-emptive buying in anticipation of tariffs which would raise prices for imported goods.

US to get its official language soon? Trump's next big move revealed
Donald Trump will sign an executive order that would for the first time make English the official language of the US, Washington Post reported citing White House officials. However, at what time Trump would sign the order is yet to be revealed. The United States has never had an official language at the federal level but the issue has been problematic for certain states. Hundreds of languages are spoken in the U.S., the byproduct of the country’s long history of taking in immigrants from around the world.
