COST UPS Manufacturing Racing economy Bill President Trump promised a manufacturing boom. Industries are not so sure
Trump has vowed his historic tariff blitz would revive domestic manufacturing, but industry worries about his approach are raising fresh doubts about whether he can deliver on his promise of an economic boom. In the Rose Garden on Wednesday, Trump declared “jobs and factories will come roaring back into our country” and predicted new “golden age” in America. Since then, he has stood by his decision to hike US tariffs to their highest levels in more than a century, even as the move sparked a global market meltdown. Some manufacturing advocates and economists questioned Trump’s underlying logic, saying supply chain issues, high costs, workforce needs and the laborious process of moving production to the US stand in the way. Continued uncertainty about Trump’s long-term policy could also have a chilling effect, they said. If the tariffs aren’t enough to convince companies to move operations to the US, it could mean Americans bear the heavy burden of the economic havoc Trump’s announcement unleashed without the promise of future benefits. That could heighten political risks for Trump and his fellow Republicans. “While we certainly agree we should aggressively pursue any policy that helps us make things in America, the idea that you can move every part of the manufacturing process back to the US does not align with reality,” said Kip Eideberg, senior vice president for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

UPS Racing Lawson Oscar performer track Japanese Grand Prix: Jack Doohan crashes, McLaren's Oscar Piastri takes top spot in second practice session
Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka were disrupted by multiple red flags due to crashes and track fires, with McLaren driver Oscar Piastri clocking the fastest time to emerge at the top. Alpine team's Jack Doohan was involved in a crash which led to a brief stoppage in the practice session. New Zealand's Liam Lawson, recently demoted to Racing Bulls, outperformed Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda, who had replaced him. Alpine driver Jack Doohan crashed at the 160mph at the first corner during the second practice session after failing to deactivate his DRS. Team principal Oliver Oakes attributed the incident to «a misjudgement» and a «something to learn from.» The crash caused significant damage to Doohan's car but he escaped without any injuries. “It was a heavy one, something that caught me by surprise, and I will learn from it. I know the team has a lot of work ahead to repair the car,” said the Formula One driver after checking with his team. The DRS issue arose because Doohan lifted off the throttle but didn’t brake, causing the DRS to remain open. This reduced downforce, leading to the spin and subsequent crash. Doohan was participating in only his fourth F1 race, and his car had been driven by reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa in the first practice session.

FIVE Racing Oscar performer track country sprint F1's Japanese GP has storylines that may be as fleeting as the country's cherry blossoms
Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday is only the third Formula 1 race of the season, and several plots are developing that promise a few twists. But the fresh storylines could be as fleeting as the cherry blossoms seen all over Japan at this time of the year. There's McLaren, which has been the early force after winning the first two races. Are Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri about to run away with the season just as Red Bull and Max Verstappen have in winning the last four drivers' titles? How about seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, who moved this season from Mercedes and is looking for his first victory for Ferrari. He won the sprint two weekends ago in Shanghai. In Sunday's main race in China, he and teammate Charles Leclerc were disqualified for technical infringements. And back to the cherry blossoms in Japan — the season typically lasts for only about two weeks, from the initial blooms to its splendorous peak. A sellout crowd of about 115,000 on Sunday at Suzuka — the Honda-operated track in central Japan — will be following every lap of Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda. Tsunoda was promoted to Red Bull last week from Racing Bulls, its feeder team. A Japanese driver has never won an F1 race.

markets Action Racing Trade country reports rights Australia says US tariffs 'not act of a friend' but rules out reciprocal move
In comments outside the White House, Trump singled out Australian beef, which saw a surge in exports to the United States last year, reaching A$4 billion amid a slump in U.S. beef production. «They won't take any of our beef. They don't want it because they don't want it to affect their farmers and you know, I don't blame them but we're doing the same thing right now,» Trump said in an event in the White House Rose Garden announcing tariffs on a wide range of U.S. trading partners. Australia banned U.S. fresh beef products in 2003 due to the detection of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, otherwise known as mad cow disease, in U.S. cattle. BSE poses a risk to human health and has never been detected in cattle in Australia. Albanese said Trump had imposed a 10% duty on all Australian goods entering the United States, equivalent to the U.S. baseline tariff on all imports, despite U.S. goods entering Australia tariff free.

Donald Trump's agenda of deep cuts and trade protectionism, as per a report. COST Racing Election reports Courts rights Elon Musk’s costly gamble on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court backfires as voters hand him an embarrassing political defeat
Elon Musk, who spent millions opposing her. The most expensive race of its kind drew national attention, owing to Elon Musk's significant investment in Brad Schimel's campaign, which ultimately failed to sway voters. The ostensibly nonpartisan race turned into the costliest state Supreme Court race in American history, serving as the first significant battleground state election of President Donald Trump's second term. Following Crawford's win in the first battleground state election of Donald Trump's second term, liberals will continue to hold a slim majority on the court. According to NBC News, Democratic-backed Dane County circuit judge Susan Crawford defeated former Republican attorney general Brad Schimel, a Waukesha County circuit judge, to win a 10-year term on the court. Donald Trump and Elon Musk, his multibillionaire advisor, suffer as a result.

UPS Racing Election President track gay Republican Jimmy Patronis wins special election in Florida's 1st Congressional District
Jimmy Patronis won a special election Tuesday in Florida's 1st Congressional District, bolstered by President Donald Trump's endorsement to fill a vacant seat in reliably Republican northern Florida and despite national Democrats pouring millions into the race. Patronis, the state's chief financial officer, fended off a challenge from Democrat Gay Valimont even though she far outraised and outspent him. He will fill the northwest Florida seat vacated by former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who was chosen to be Trump's attorney general but withdrew from consideration amid allegations of sexual misconduct, which he has denied. Valimont benefited from the outrage of national donors alarmed by the early months of Trump's second term but was ultimately not able to pull off what would have been a massive upset in a district both Trump and Gaetz won by more than 30 points last year. The mood was celebratory at a waterfront restaurant in Pensacola, where congratulatory text messages were already lighting up Patronis' phone as early results were posted Tuesday night. Patronis worked the crowd of about 100 people shaking hands and giving hugs, his wife Katie and two sons in tow. In Florida's 6th Congressional District, Republican state Sen. Randy Fine won his race against Democratic challenger Josh Weil. Fine was on track for a much narrower victory than the 33-point margin by which Mike Waltz won the district in November, according to early returns.
