
Mallory McMorrow enters Michigan Senate race, promises ‘new generation of leadership’
Mallory McMorrow has announced her candidacy for the US Senate seat, currently held by Democrat Gary Peters. Senator Peters is set to retire in 2026. The 38-year-old Democrat has become the first prominent candidate to formally enter the race. Her entry has set the stage for what is expected to be one of the most competitive and expensive senate battlers of the midterms.
McMorrow, who represents a suburban Detroit district, positioned herself as a fresh alternative to the Democratic Party’s current leadership, the reports stated. The politician, in her campaign launch video, called for a ‘new generation of leadership’. She also criticised party veterans for their failure to offer a clear plan to counter President Donald Trump’s influence.

Mallory, according to the NBC news report, said that she was frustrated seeing a lack of urgency from her current party leadership. She added that the United States needs Democrats who will actually do what they say once they are elected to power.
Her announcement, as per the media reports, followed growing speculation over Democratic field. US Rep Haley Stevens and Attorney General Dana Nessel are still considering bids. On the Republican side, former US Rep Mike Rogers is expected to run again. He narrowly lost the 2024 Senate race.
