Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai inspected the Narela-Singhu border to see the implementation of stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which enforces a ban on the operation of Delhi-registered BS-IV and below diesel-operated medium goods vehicles (MGVs) and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), except for essential services. Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has proposed amendments to the Insolvency Resolution Process for Corporate Persons Regulations, 2016 and to make it mandatory to form monitoring committees to oversee implementation of resolution plans under the bankruptcy code. While the current framework under Regulation 38 of the CIRP Regulations provides certain basic recognition to monitoring committees, the proposed amendments aim to make their constitution mandatory for implementation of all resolution plans, the bankruptcy regulator said in a discussion paper. The proposed framework will empower the Committee of Creditors (CoC) to take final decisions on the constitution, composition, and functioning period of the monitoring committee, as part of the resolution plan.

Delhi High Court on Wednesday stayed trial court proceedings against former Union minister P Chidambaram in a money laundering case connected to the Aircel-Maxis deal. Issuing notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Chidambaram's plea, the court ordered that the proceedings against Chidambaram shall remain till the next date of hearing. Chidambaram petitioned the HC challenging the trial court order taking cognisance of the complaint moved by the ED against him and his son Karti Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis case.

Lava International managing director Hari Om Rai who was arrested in October last year in a money laundering case involving Vivo Mobile Communication China, and its Indian group entities. Noting that Rai had been in custody since October 10, 2023 and the trial was at the stage of documents and charges were yet to be framed, Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri said: “...the trial is not expected to end anytime in the near future and the delay is not attributable to the accused, keeping the accused in custody by using Section 45 PMLA(Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002,) a tool for incarceration or as a shackle is not permissible,” the HC said, adding liberty of an accused cannot be curtailed by Section 45 of the 2002 Act without taking all other germane considerations into account. The case has 48 accused persons, 527 witnesses and 80,000 pages of documents, and the trial was not expected to end anytime in the near future, the judge said, adding that out of the seven accused persons who were arrested, the arrest of three persons had been declared illegal by the trial court and the other three have already been released on bail, said the court.

Zomato is leading India's food delivery space with a market share of 58% in the first quarter of FY25, according to a report by Motilal Oswal. Recently-listed rival Swiggy lags with a 42% share. In the rapidly growing quick commerce space, Zomato-owned Blinkit commands a 46% market share, followed by Zepto at 29% and Swiggy Instamart at 25%, in Q1FY25. «Zomato has continued to gain market share from Swiggy from FY22 to 1QFY25, aided by its stronger execution. According to reported gross order value (GOV), Zomato’s market share grew from 54% in FY22 to 58% in 1QFY25,» the report said.

Residents in India's northern states woke up to another day of poor air quality on Wednesday, as a layer of dense fog shrouded most of the region, and pollution in the capital Delhi remained severe. India battles air pollution every winter as cold, heavy air traps dust, emissions, and smoke from farm fires started illegally in the adjoining, farming states of Punjab and Haryana.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday urged the voters of Maharashtra and Jharkhand to cast their votes in their respective state assembly elections. In a post on X, Rajanath Singh appealed to the first-time voters of the state to exercise their franchise. «I call upon my sisters and brothers of Maharashtra to vote in large numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy. I particularly urge young and first-time voters to exercise their franchise,» he said in a post on X.

Maharashtra assembly seats and the remaining 38 Jharkhand constituencies will be held on Wednesday. Results for both the states will be out on November 23. RBI Deputy Governor Swaminathan J has asked banks to follow KYC guidelines with both «precision and empathy», failing which regulatory actions will be taken against them by the central bank. Addressing a Conference of Directors of Private Sector Banks here on Monday, the Deputy Governor also expressed concern that in many cases, customer grievance mechanisms, including the Internal Ombudsman structure, are treated more as a formality than as a robust, effective resource. The Internal Ombudsman mechanism should be more than words on paper; it should operate with the spirit and diligence necessary to resolve issues impartially and promptly, he said. Bank boards, he said, should work towards building customer-centric banks where every individual, regardless of age, income, or background, feels valued and respected.
