Bangladesh's Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain on Saturday said that Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will not be meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to media reports. Hossain, former foreign secretary of Bangladesh, said he would hold a bilateral meeting with India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to advance the relationship between the two neighbours, The Daily Star newspaper reported. At a press briefing at the foreign ministry in the afternoon, Hossain said, «Sorting out all issues, we want to further advance our relationship based on mutual respect and fairness.»

Indian Navy have decided to significantly bolster the force's combat prowess in the Indian Ocean against the backdrop of China's increasing forays into the region and geopolitical power play being witnessed in the Indo-Pacific. The decision to enhance India's combat capabilities in the maritime sphere following extensive deliberations at a four-day naval commanders' conference that concluded here on Friday, officials said. In his address to the commanders, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi underlined the need to maintain vigil towards ensuring maritime security and coastal defence through close synergy and functional linkages with the Coast Guard and other maritime agencies. BJP on Saturday cited a joint statement of several Sikh groups to ask Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to withdraw his statement, which has allegedly created an atmosphere of fear in the country. BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa told reporters that several Sikh and gurdwara management bodies met Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai over the issue and he asserted the sacrifices of the Sikhs have made the country strong. The BJP has hit out at Gandhi for his comments during the trip to the US that the ongoing ideological fight in India include ensuring freedom for different religions such as whether the Sikhs will be allowed to wear turban or go to gurdwaras. Sirsa said the Sikh bodies have urged Gandhi to withdraw his statement as it is damaging them.

digital payments has surged to Rs 1,669 lakh crore in the first five months (April-August) of the current financial year 2024-25, according to Union Finance Ministry. The ministry stated that the transaction volume of digital payments has reached 8,659 crore during the same period. The value of UPI transactions has grown from Rs 1 lakh crore to Rs 200 lakh crore at a CAGR of 138%. Additionally, in the last 5 months (April-August FY2024-25), the total transaction value has surged to an impressive Rs 101 lakh crore. The Ministry of Finance in a statement on Friday highlighted that digital payments in India have witnessed significant growth, with the total number of digital payment transactions increasing from 2,071 crore in FY 2017-18 to 18,737 crore in FY 2023-24, at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 44%.

According to the FAA, SpaceX utilized an unauthorized launch control room during the PSN SATRIA mission on June 18 and failed to conduct a required T-2 hour poll for another mission in May. FAA Chief Counsel Marc Nichols stated, “Safety drives everything we do at the FAA, including a legal responsibility for the safety oversight of companies with commercial space transportation licenses. Failure of a company to comply with the safety requirements will result in consequences."

SEBI's refusal to disclose instances when its chairperson Madhabi Buch recused herself due to conflict of interest and said that this makes a «mockery» of public accountability and transparency. The cases where Buch recused herself due to potential conflict of interest is not «readily» available and collating them would «disproportionately divert» its resources, the securities market regulator said in an RTI response on Friday. In the response furnished to transparency activist Commodore Lokesh Batra (retd), the regulator also refused to provide copies of Buch's declarations to the government and SEBI Board on the financial assets and equities held by her and her family members on the grounds of these being «personal information» and that their disclosure may «endanger» personal safety. Reacting to the development, Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said, «The multiple conflicts of interest of the SEBI Chairperson that have been revealed so far are shocking in themselves. Now in a move that adds more fuel to the raging fire, SEBI has simply refused to divulge information to a RTI activist on instances of the SEBI Chairperson recusing herself on issues where there have been potential conflicts of interest.»

After getting wind of his visit, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought the immediate detention of Choksi, said the people cited above. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has advised banks to seek legal remedy in case of a stand-off with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over matters classified as fraud. The RBI's advice was in response to the CBI returning complaints filed by some banks to probe accounts tagged as fraud and where they have already filed an FIR (first information report). In several cases, the investigative agency has informed the lender that its complaint has been returned because the borrower concerned has not been given an in-person hearing before the account was classified as fraud.

EV makers that source components locally will receive financial support under the scheme sans any domestic value addition mandate, they said.

Housing sales are estimated to decline 18% during July-September quarter across nine major cities to 1,04,393 units on high base, according to PropEquity data. Real estate data analytic firm PropEquity on Friday released the data for housing sales across nine major cities. Sales stood at 1,26,848 units in the same period last year. As per the data, the housing sales are estimated to rise only in Delhi NCR (22%) and Navi Mumbai (4%) during July-September period of this year.
