Additional spectrum case: HC expunges remarks against CBI in special court's discharge order
CBI by a special court in its order discharging former telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh and three telecom firms in the 2002 additional spectrum allocation case. The high court said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the premier investigating agency of the country, and any observation or remark which does not have substantive basis will «demoralise» the entire agency. «The law as discussed… makes it clear that the function assigned to investigating agency is very sensitive in nature,» Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma said. He said the record showed that the special court, before making such remarks, gave no opportunity to CBI officers to defend themselves. «In any case, the order of discharge has not been challenged by the CBI as recorded by the special judge.

Union Minister Hardeep S Puri to flag off India's first green hydrogen fuel cell bus
Green Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus at Kartavya Path in Delhi on September 25. Green Hydrogen, produced using renewable energy sources, holds the potential to play a pivotal role in low-carbon and self-reliant economic pathways, read the Ministry Petroleum and Natural Gas press release. It offers the prospect of harnessing domestically abundant renewable energy resources year-round and across various sectors, either as a fuel or an industrial feedstock. Green Hydrogen has the capacity to replace fossil fuel-derived feedstocks in industries like petroleum refining, fertilizer production, and steel manufacturing, read the press release. Fuel cell technology, powered by hydrogen, is emerging as a significant component of the e-mobility landscape. The electrochemical reaction in a fuel cell converts hydrogen at the anode and oxygen from the air at the cathode into water, releasing electrical energy in the form of electrons, read the press release. Fuel cells boast remarkable efficiency compared to other mobility solutions and provide distinct advantages such as extended range and shorter refuelling times in comparison to battery-powered vehicles. Hydrogen gas is stored onboard in cylinders, typically at a pressure of 350 bar. IndianOil has embarked on a scientifically designed program to conduct operational trials of 15 Fuel Cell buses fueled by Green Hydrogen on specific routes in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, read the press release. The launch of the first set of two fuel cell buses from India Gate on September 25, 2023, marks a significant milestone in this endeavour. This program represents India's maiden initiative to dispense green hydrogen at 350 bar for operating fuel cell buses. Additionally, IndianOil has established

Sanatana Dharma row: SC notice to Udhayanidhi Stalin
Supreme Court on Friday sought response of Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on a plea seeking registration of a criminal case against him over his recent remarks on Sanatana Dharma. A bench of justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi issued notices to the DMK leader on the plea filed by a Tamil Nadu advocate, B Jagannath. The petitioner told the bench that there has been a call for «eradication of a faith». Although the bench sought a response from Udhayanidhi, it clarified that the instant matter will not be tagged with the pending cases pertaining to hate speech. The petitioner argued that the September 2 conference where Udhayanidhi made the controversial remarks against Sanatana Dharma be declared unconstitutional for being violative of the right to freedom of religion. The petition also sought an injunction to restrain the Tamil Nadu minister from making such remarks and to prevent the holding of such events in future. Recently, 262 eminent persons including 14 retired high court judges had in a letter to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud sought suo motu cognisance of Udhayanidhi Stalin's remarks on Sanatana Dharma. Udhayanidhi had said that Sanatana Dharma divides people in the name of caste and religion, and hence should be eradicated.

Tiwari's counsel had last week added that many states have imposed a complete ban despite the orders of the top court. Refusing to interfere, the bench had verbally told the counsel for Tiwari that «locally, if there is a ban, there is a ban.
