PM warns of new colonialism
NEW DELHI : A new model of colonialism may arise if countries with large reserves of critical and rare earth minerals do not consider these resources as a global responsibility, Prime minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said, sounding what he called a “serious warning". Addressing the B20 Summit of business representatives from G20 countries, Modi said while critical and rare earth minerals are the need of the entire world, they are unevenly distributed globally—some countries have large quantities of these minerals while others do not have them at all.

Liverpool's strategic move thwarts Newcastle United's bid for Dominik Szoboszlai in dramatic transfer twist
Newcastle United's pursuit of Dominik Szoboszlai from Liverpool has been officially acknowledged by Eddie Howe, the team's manager. However, the potential move seems to have been hindered by financial considerations. Reports from NewcastleWorld initially indicated that the Magpies were evaluating the possibility of bringing Hungarian international Dominik Szoboszlai to their ranks during the summer transfer window. Alongside Sandro Tonali, Szoboszlai's name emerged as a potential addition to Newcastle United. Yet, rather than triggering his substantial £61 million release clause, the club's preference leaned towards engaging in negotiations below this valuation. With a considerable £52 million already committed to securing Tonali, the financial context played a significant role in the decision-making process.

Congress' Milind Deora hails 'evolving chemistry' of INDIA partners, says 'best example' of it is in Maharashtra
INDIA bloc in Mumbai, Congress leader Milind Deora on Sunday said seat sharing for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls among alliance partners is more or less finalised in many states with only a few states requiring more time. Deora, who is closely involved in the organising of the meeting, hailed the «evolving chemistry» between Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) partners and said the best example of that was in Maharashtra. In an interview with PTI ahead of the INDIA bloc meeting on August 31-September 1, the Congress leader from Maharashtra also asserted that there are «no problems» within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction). His remarks come close on the heels of a «split» in the NCP with Ajit Pawar and eight other NCP MLAs joining the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state on July 2. Subsequently, the meetings between NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar have been the subject of some consternation among INDIA bloc partners. Deora dismissed concerns over the developments in the NCP, saying seat sharing among MVA partners will be discussed and finalised at a later stage and what was happening within the NCP is their «internal issue». The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance is an opposition bloc of 26 parties, which was formed recently to take on the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

Haryana safe, nobody should worry about it: Manohar Lal Khattar on Punjab CM's remark on Nuh clashes
Haryana is safe and nobody should worry about it, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Sunday, a day after his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann claimed that governors of BJP-ruled Manipur and Haryana were «silent» on the law-and-order situation there. Mann made the remark on Saturday as he lashed out at Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit for «threatening» to impose President's rule in the state. Replying to a question on the Punjab chief minister's remarks, Khattar on Sunday said, «Haryana is safe and nobody should worry about it. If there is a talk of (imposing) President's rule, it is for there (Punjab).» Mann had said that while the AAP government in Punjab had been taking proactive steps to tackle the scourge of drugs, confiscating, raiding properties of smugglers, and going after gangsters with the formation of an Anti-Gangster Task Force, the governor claims law and order in the state was not good. «I want to ask Governor Sahab, has the Haryana Governor issued any notice to Haryana Chief Minister Khattar regarding what happened in Nuh, communal clashes and violence that took place there and curfew had to be imposed? Did the Haryana governor write any letter to Khattar? No, because their government is also ruling at the Centre,» he had said.
