Trump's tariff threat is turning two of the world's biggest foes into friends
“We are willing to work with the Indian side to strengthen practical cooperation in trade and other areas, and to import more Indian products that are well-suited to the Chinese market,” the ambassador to India was quoted as saying by China’s state-run Global Times, in a story posted Monday. Bilateral trade between the neighbors stood at $101.7 billion in 2023-24, according to India’s trade ministry, with India running a significant deficit. India’s main exports include petroleum oil, iron ore, marine products and vegetable oil, amounting to $16.6 billion, according to the government figures. The envoy’s remarks were to mark the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic ties. US President Donald Trump, who is set to roll out reciprocal tariffs Wednesday on countries around the world, has called out China and India for trade practices that he sees as unfair.

'Offensive, strongly condemnable': Assam CM slams Muhammad Yunus's remark on Bangladesh as 'guardian' of Indian Ocean
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday strongly criticised and condemned the remarks made by the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, Muhammad Yunus, claiming that Bangladesh is the «only guardian» of the Indian Ocean for the region, as the seven northeastern Indian states are «landlocked». Yunus made these remarks during his four-day visit to China. Taking to the social media platform X, the Assam CM said that the statement was «offensive and strongly condemnable», noting that the region had been under ongoing security risk discourse linked to India's critical 'Chicken's Neck' corridor." Sarma further highlighted historical suggestions by some internal elements in India to sever this critical passageway and isolate the Northeast. «The statement made by Md Younis of Bangladesh so-called interim Government referring to the seven sister states of Northeast India as landlocked and positioning Bangladesh as their guardian of ocean access is offensive and strongly condemnable. This remark underscores the persistent vulnerability narrative associated with India's strategic „Chicken's Neck“ corridor. Historically, even internal elements within India have dangerously suggested severing this critical passageway to isolate the Northeast from the mainland physically,» Sarma said.

Why Salman Khan is a big fan of MS Dhoni? A 'rare quality' of CSK cricketer
Salman Khan, the Bollywood superstar, has never shied away from expressing his admiration for sports personalities. Among the many athletes he respects, one stands out — Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team. Khan's admiration for Dhoni goes beyond his cricketing skills; it is Dhoni's unique personality that truly impresses the actor. During an appearance on a sports show, Salman Khan was once asked to name his favorite cricketer, to which he immediately responded, “I am a fan of Dhoni.” The actor expressed that he has great admiration for Dhoni’s calm and composed nature, describing him as someone who is “very cool” and never shows aggression. He emphasized that Dhoni's mannerisms, whether he takes a wicket or achieves something remarkable, are always understated. Khan remarked, “Even if he takes a wicket, he does not make much noise, and he never humiliates the opponent.” This quality of remaining unruffled and dignified, according to Khan, makes Dhoni stand out in the world of cricket.

US, Russia discussing rare earth metals projects, Putin envoy says
Russia and the United States have started talks on joint rare earth metals and other projects in Russia, and some companies have already expressed an interest in them, President Vladimir Putin's investment envoy said in remarks published on Monday. Amid efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine, minerals cooperation has been floated by both Kyiv and Moscow, though Trump said on Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy wants to back out of a proposed deal. Putin in February suggested that the United States might be interested in exploring joint exploration for rare earth metals deposits in Russia, which has the world's fifth-largest reserves of the metals used in lasers and military equipment. Kirill Dmitriev, Kremlin special envoy on international economic and investment cooperation, told the Izvestia newspaper in remarks published on Monday that talks had already begun. «Rare earth metals are an important area for cooperation, and, of course, we have begun discussions on various rare earth metals and (other) projects in Russia,» said Kirill Dmitriev, who is also the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

Iran has rejected direct negotiations with US in response to Trump's letter
However, such talks have made no progress since Trump in his first term unilaterally withdrew America from Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers in 2018. In the years since, regional tensions have boiled over into attacks at sea and on land. Then came the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip, which saw Israel target militant group leaders across Iran's self-described «Axis of Resistance». Now, as the US conducts intense airstrikes targeting the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels of Yemen, the risk of military action targeting Iran's nuclear programme remains on the table. «We don't avoid talks; it's the breach of promises that has caused issues for us so far,» Pezeshkian said in televised remarks during a Cabinet meeting. «They must prove that they can build trust.»

Netanyahu says military pressure on Hamas working, 'cracks' emerging in negotiations
«We are negotiating under fire… We can see cracks beginning to appear» in what the group demanded in its negotiations, Netanyahu told a cabinet meeting. Netanyahu's remarks came as mediators — Egypt, Qatar, and the United States — continued efforts to broker a ceasefire and secure the release of Israeli hostages still held in Gaza. A senior Hamas official stated on Saturday that the group had approved a new ceasefire proposal put forward by mediators and urged Israel to support it. Netanyahu's office confirmed receipt of the proposal and said Israel had submitted a counterproposal.

‘What is a woman?’: Here's how Donald Trump answered this question amid his contoversial transgender policies
The question was asked within the framework of Women's History Month and the policies of the administration toward defining gender and transgender rights. A reporter, after praising Trump's policies that have denied transgender athletes from playing women's sports, inquired, «What is a woman, and why is it that we need to acknowledge the difference between men and women?» Without hesitation, Trump responded, «Well, it’s actually a simple answer for me. A woman is someone who can bear a child under certain conditions”, as quoted in a report by Fox News. His remarks were met with amusement as he further added, „A woman is also someone much smarter than a man. I’ve always believed that… A woman is someone who never gives a man an easy chance at winning.“

Delhi court dismisses plea seeking prosecution of AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj for alleged defamation
Delhi court on Saturday dismissed a plea filed by a BJP leader seeking prosecution of AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj for allegedly making defamatory remarks against him in September 2018. Special judge Vishal Gogne turned down the petition filed by BJP's Suraj Bhan Chauhan against a trial court's February 19 order which rejected his complaint against Bharadwaj, citing delay in filing it. The limitation period was found to have lapsed on March 16, 2024, the court said while noting the magisterial court had already accorded the permissible liberal construction to the limitation period. The court finds the conduct of Chauhan to have been «whimsical and opportunistic» in filing the belated defamation complaint, regarding the press conference of the year 2018, only in December 2024 against respondent Saurabh Bharadwaj on the cusp of the Delhi Assembly elections in early 2025, the judge said. Chauhan had alleged that Bharadwaj defamed him in 2018 by falsely claiming at a press conference that an FIR had been lodged against him. He claimed before the special judge that he had «inadvertently» filed the complaint against Bharadwaj, a former Delhi minister, before Saket court instead of Rouse Avenue Court which came up for hearing in September 2020.

Salman Khan's cheeky reply on nepotism: ‘Kangana Ranaut's daughter will enter films or politics?
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, known for his larger-than-life persona and unfiltered opinions, recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing nepotism debate in the film industry. During a press event for his upcoming film Sikandar, the actor tackled the subject with his signature humor and candidness. Speaking at the conference on March 26, 2025, Salman dismissed the idea of anyone being completely self-made, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and opportunities shaped by circumstances. He acknowledged that his own journey in the industry was influenced by his father, veteran writer Salim Khan, whose decision to move from Indore to Mumbai played a crucial role in shaping his (Salman) career. Reflecting on this, he pointed out that without his father’s move, he might have been leading a completely different life in Indore. The discussion took an amusing turn when the conversation shifted to star kids entering Bollywood. When Raveena Tandon’s daughter, Rasha, was mentioned as an example, Salman misheard and jokingly referenced Kangana Ranaut, playfully speculating whether her future child would enter films or politics. He said, “Ab Kangana ki beti aayengi, to films karengi ya politics join karengi? To unko bhi…” His lighthearted remark added a moment of laughter to the conversation, showcasing his trademark wit.

Nicholas Pooran joins elite club as second player to cross 1000 runs for Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The explosive batsman achieved this feat with a dazzling 70 off just 26 balls during his side's dominant victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad. Pooran's swashbuckling knock dismantled Sunrisers' 190-run defense and left the crowd at their home ground stunned. His blistering innings was key to breaking the back of Hyderabad’s total, as he unleashed a series of powerful strokes before eventually being dismissed by SRH captain Pat Cummins. By the time Pooran made his way back to the dressing room, he had accumulated 1002 runs in just 31 matches for LSG, positioning him as the second-highest run-scorer in the franchise's history. His impressive tally places him just behind former captain KL Rahul, who holds the record with 1410 runs in 38 matches. Pooran's remarkable achievement comes at an average of 45.54 and a strike rate of 184.53. Known for his effortless power-hitting, Pooran has become synonymous with fast-paced innings in the IPL. He has crossed the fifty-run mark in fewer than 20 deliveries on four occasions, setting a record for the fastest half-century by any player in the competition. Australia’s Travis Head and Jake Fraser-McGurk are tied for second, having achieved the same feat three times each. Notably, Pooran reached his fifty in just 18 balls during this game, marking the second-fastest fifty for LSG, only behind his own 15-ball effort against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2023.

GE delivers first engine for indigenous LCA Mk1a
indigenous fighter jet, the light combat aircraft Mk1a, has been delivered, marking the start of supplies that had been delayed due to supply chain constraints. GE Aerospace has handed over the first of 99 F404-IN20 engines on order to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and a total of 12 engines are expected to be sent this year. The supply of LCA Mk1a to the Air Force has been delayed by over a year as the engines could not come on time due to disruptions in global supply chains faced by the American vendor. The Air Force has placed an order for 83 jets on HAL, which now plans to gradually ramp up production, taking it to 24 aircraft a year. GE acknowledged the delays in supplies, saying that it shut down the production line for engines in 2016 when earlier orders had been fulfilled and restarting it was a complex task. The company added that the delivery of the first engine is an important milestone and it will continue to work with suppliers to keep the production line efficient. «Restarting the F404-IN20 engine line during Covid pandemic was even more challenging. With a high focus on safety and quality, and a remarkable commitment from our supply chain teams and our suppliers and partners, we have managed to restart the line,» Shawn Warren, general manager, Combat & Trainer Engines, GE Aerospace, said. The executive said that the engine is one the most successful in military aviation history and the variant delivered has been particularly made for the Indian requirement. «The F404-IN20 engine is a tailored design for India's single-engine fighter, with the highest thrust within the F404 family and a higher-flow fan, unique single-crystal turbine blades, and numerous special components,» he said.

Total insensitiveness: SC stays Allahabad HC order
A bench of justices BR Gavai and Augustine George Masih had taken suo motu cognisance of the Allahabad HC ruling on Tuesday. «We are at pains to state that it shows total lack of sensitivity on part of the author of the judgement. It (the order by high court) was not even at the spur of the moment and was delivered four months after reserving the same. Thus, there was application of mind,» the bench verbally remarked. The bench further orally observed: «We are usually hesitant to grant stay at this stage. But since observations in paragraphs 21, 24 and 26 is unknown to canons of law and show an inhuman approach, we stay the observations in said paras.» Solicitor general Tushar Mehta said there are enough reasons to stay the order. «Some judgements contain reasons for staying them. It has the same,» Mehta added.
