CPI-M announced that they would boycott the remaining days of the ongoing Budget session of the Tripura Assembly to protest Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen's alleged «partisan behaviour». The opposition CPI-M members walkout from the House over the «racist» remarks against Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury by state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath. The LoP moved a privilege motion against Minister Nath on Tuesday. However, the Speaker rejected the motion on Wednesday, saying that one privilege motion against CPI-M's Tripura mouthpiece 'Daily Desher Kath' was accepted, and as per the rule, two privilege motions cannot be accepted on the same day. The privilege motion against 'Daily Desher Kath' was moved by Minister Nath. During the Zero Hour, when the Speaker announced that he rejected the privilege motion moved by the LoP against Minister Nath, the opposition CPI-M members protested, leading to pandemonium in the House.

Black Sea deal aimed at Moscow making profit, ensuring food safety, Russia's Lavrov says
Sergei Lavrov said in remarks published late on Tuesday. The United States reached separate deals on Tuesday with Ukraine and Russia to cease fighting in the Black Sea and pause attacks against energy targets, with Washington agreeing to push to lift some sanctions against Moscow. «We want the grain and fertilizer market to be predictable, so that no one tries to 'ward us off' from it,» Lavrov told the Russian state Channel One television. «Not only because we want… to make a legitimate profit in fair competition, but also because we are concerned about the food security situation in Africa and other countries of the Global South.» If implemented, the deal could be the first significant step toward U.S. President Donald Trump's goal to achieve a more encompassing ceasefire in the war in Ukraine that Russia started with its full-scale invasion three years ago.

Stagflation on the radar for the US economy. Fed Chair Jerome Powell's big remark on 1970s nightmare
stagflation," as one economist put it—a concern gaining traction among analysts who question whether the U.S. economy's strong post-pandemic performance is beginning to wane. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve painted a picture of an economy reshaped dramatically by President Donald Trump and his economic policy. It warned that tariffs could significantly dampen the economic outlook, ushering in higher inflation and slower growth. That sparked concerns about the dreaded “stagflation,” an economic curse that is hard to escape. Another Nitish-Rabri spat in Bihar council
Bihar Legislative Council on Tuesday witnessed yet another spat between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of the Opposition Rabri Devi who was told by the former that she was inconsequential, but for being the wife of RJD president Lalu Prasad. The JD(U) president's fresh fit of temper was caused by the sight of RJD MLCs reaching the House wearing badges, dyed in green, the colour of the party flag, with slogans declaring that quotas for deprived castes had been hiked in the state by the «Tejashwi government» and were «stolen» after BJP returned to power. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD supremo's son and heir apparent, was the Deputy CM when the quotas were hiked through legislations passed in 2023, which were, however, quashed by the Patna High Court months later. Bihar's longest-serving CM was visibly miffed at the attempt by his former ally to steal credit for the populist move and he made one of the MLCs stand up so that the badge and the slogans on it could be seen clearly. Staring upwards in the direction of the media gallery, the septuagenarian said, «Just look at this spectacle. You can see this only in this party». Rabri Devi rose in protest against the derision of her party, only to be snubbed by Kumar with the remark, in Bihari slang, «You just stay out of this. The party is not yours but that of your husband».

Perpetrators of crimes against peacekeepers must be brought to justice: India at UNSC
India told the UN Security Council that peacekeepers have to contend with the presence of non-state actors, armed groups and terrorists, and in an era of complex conflicts and threats, perpetrators of crimes against peacekeepers must be brought to justice. These remarks were made by India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, during the UN Security Council Open Debate on Advancing Adaptability in UN Peace operations on Monday. «UN Peacekeepers today have to contend with the presence of non-state actors, armed groups, terrorists, as well as transnational criminal networks. Technological advancements have created new challenges in the form of mis-/dis-/mal-information and hate speech, new-age weapons, including drones, IEDs etc. These are but a few new realities that peacekeepers are up against,» he said. «Safety and security of peacekeepers must remain paramount. In an era marked by complex conflicts and asymmetric threats, we must ensure that those who risk their lives for peace are adequately protected and that perpetrators of crimes against peacekeepers are brought to justice,» he said. He stressed that troop/police-contributing countries need to focus on enhancing the capabilities of their personnel to address emerging challenges to operate effectively in hostile environments. «India is willing to curate and offer courses that address specific demands of modern peacekeeping at our Centre for UN Peacekeeping (CUNPK), which has been training national and international peacekeepers for over two decades,» he added.

Congress on Monday filed notices for breach of privilege against parliamentary and minority affairs minister Kiren Rijiju and health minister JP Nadda over their statements in Parliament about Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar's purported remarks in the context of the four per cent quota for Muslims in government contracts in the state. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who is also leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said none of his party colleagues spoke about changing the Constitution and claimed the BJP charge was a diversionary tactic to avoid discussion on the currency seizure from a Delhi High Court judge's residence.

Karnataka’s 4% Muslim quota bill sparks heated Rajya Sabha debate over Constitution
reservation bill to Muslims in public contracts by the Karnataka assembly and the purported remarks of deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, that if need be the Congress can amend the Constitution, rocked the Rajya Sabha on Monday with the BJP alleging that religion-based quota was against the Constitution while the main Opposition insisted Sivakumar has not said what was attributed to him. Soon after the Upper House met for the day, minority affairs minister Kiren Rijiju alleged that a Congress leader, holding a Constitutional position, has said his party can change the Constitution to give reservation to Muslims. While Rijiju did not name the person, leader of the House JP Nadda said Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar has given a statement that if need be we will change the Constitution to give reservation to Muslims. «I have to say with great sadness that the Congress which claims to protect the Constitution is flouting it. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, who drafted the Constitution, said reservations will not be given on the basis of religion. But in Karnataka, the Congress government has passed a bill to give 4% reservation in public contracts to Muslims… They want to shred the Constitution,» Nadda said. However, leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, who also hails from Karnataka, refuted the charges. «I will only say that nobody can change or end the Constitution made by Ambedkar. We carried out the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to protect the Constitution… We are the ones who stand for protecting the Constitution,» he said. As the Congress and BJP members shouted slogans against each other, the House was adjourned till 2pm.

Journalist booked for anti-Shivaji Maharaj remarks held from Telangana
Maharashtra police on Monday said they have arrested Nagpur journalist Prashant Koratkar, booked for making derogatory remarks about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son Chhatrapati Sambhaji, from Telangana. Koratkar was taken into custody in Telangana and is being brought to Maharashtra, an official said. «We have taken him into custody and a police team is bringing him to Kolhapur. Further legal procedure will follow,» said Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit said. A case was filed against Koratkar for making derogatory remarks about 17th-century Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son, Chhatrapati Sambhaji. Koratkar was booked on February 26 under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions for promoting hatred or enmity among groups on the basis of an audio conversation between Koratkar and Kolhapur-based historian Indrajeet Sawant. Koratkar had allegedly made the objectionable comments during this conversation, which Sawant had posted on social media, resulting in widespread outrage and calls for the former's arrest. While Additional Sessions Judge DV Kashyap granted him protection from arrest till March 1, Kolhapur police approached the Bombay High Court against the order and seeking cancellation of this interim protection. 'Will not accept if it leads to tyranny': Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Kamra's remark on Eknath Shinde
Devendra Fadnavis has taken a strong stand on the alleged disparaging remarks made by stand-up artist Kunal Kamra against the state deputy CM Eknath Shinde. The Chief Minister while speaking in the state Assembly on Monday stated that the government would not accept freedom of expression if it leads to tyranny. The chief minister said, «We appreciate humour and satire. We accept political satire, but we do not accept freedom of expression if it leads to tyranny.» He stated that Kamra staged «low-quality» comedy. «This artist makes statements against the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice; he wants to gain fame by creating controversy. He targeted Eknath Shinde and staged low-quality comedy,» adding that the people will decide whether Eknath Shinde is a traitor or a selfish person. Further referring to Eknath Shinde as the heir to Balasaheb Thackeray's legacy, he questioned the opposition, asking whether they had given a «supari» for the stand-up show. «Balasaheb Thackeray's legacy is with Eknath Shinde… and those on the opposite bench support him, have you given a supari? This Kamra tweeted a photo of the Constitution; if he had read the Constitution, he would not have committed such atrocities,» he added.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Monday demanded that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recover damages from Shiv Sainiks who vandalised the studio where stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra's show was shot. Speaking to reporters, Raut alleged that there was «gunda raj» (hooliganism) in the state capital and said Fadnavis was incapable of handling the home department. The Mumbai police have registered an FIR against Kamra for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a show. The police also registered a case against nearly 40 Shiv Sena workers for allegedly vandalising the Habitat Studio in Mumbai's Khar area, where Kamra's show with «gaddar» (traitor) jibe at Shinde was filmed, and a hotel where the studio is located. The comedian taunted Shinde using a modified version of a Hindi song from the film «Dil To Pagal Hai», eliciting laughter from the audience. Raut said Kamra hadn't named anyone in the satire song and questioned the need for the agitated reaction.
