TMC MP Mahua Moitra for her «derogatory» remark on NCW chief Rekha Sharma, the Delhi Police on Monday sought from social media company X details of the lawmaker's now-deleted comment. Moitra was booked under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita that deals with a word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader commented on a video posted on X that showed Sharma arriving at the site of a stampede in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras on July 4. Moitra later deleted the post, which referred to a man holding an umbrella and walking behind the National Commission for Women (NCW) chief. An official source said the Delhi Police had written to X and added a response from the social media company was still awaited.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expunged portions of Rahul Gandhi's speech, questions were raised over the efficacy of this move in times of live telecast and digital media. Rule 380 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha vests the Speaker with power to order expunction of words — which in his opinion are «defamatory, or indecent or unparliamentary or undignified» — from the proceedings of the House. Birla ordering expunction of Gandhi's remarks, including on Hinduism, means that parts of the speech will not be included in official record. It also means that expunged parts will be erased from video recordings of Lok Sabha TV. This is done to make it consistent with the official printed version. So while Gandhi may have scored immediate political brownie points with his speech in Lok Sabha, the expunction will mean that official records will not reflect the deleted portions.

Rahul Gandhi's behaviour and speech in Parliament did not behove an opposition leader but was like «that of an unruly ('uchshrankhal') student leader» in college, she added.

Reacting sharply, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla termed Moitra's comment on the microblogging site as «extremely indecent, objectionable and shameful», and said this is the «true face» of the TMC and the opposition parties' INDIA bloc. «MP Mahua Moitra who justified and remained silent during Sandeshkhali, Chopra Talibani flogging, silent on Swati Maliwal now makes a disgusting comment at a women that too the NCW Chief,» he charged.

Signature Global on Sunday reported a 3.5 times jump in sales bookings to Rs 3,120 crore for the April-June quarter on high demand for its housing projects. The company's sales bookings stood at Rs 820 crore in the year-ago period. According to a regulatory filing, Signature Global sold 968 units in the first quarter of this fiscal against 894 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. In terms of volume, its sales bookings more than doubled to 2.03 million square feet from 0.91 million square feet a year earlier.

Workers of the BJP and the Congress hurled stones at each other outside Gujarat Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad on Tuesday during a protest against the remarks made by Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. In a post in Hindi on X, Gandhi said, «The cowardly and violent attack on the Gujarat Congress office further strengthens my point about the BJP and the Sangh Parivar. The BJP people who spread violence and hatred do not understand the basic principles of Hinduism.» «The people of Gujarat can clearly see through their lies and will teach the BJP government a decisive lesson. I am saying it again — INDIA is going to win in Gujarat!» the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said.

Congress on Saturday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke all parliamentary norms by accusing the then Rajya Sabha chairman Hamid Ansari of having an «inclination» towards the opposition when the BJP came to power in 2014. In his reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address in the Lok Sabha on July 2, Modi said, «No matter how many numbers they claim, when we came in 2014, our strength in the Rajya Sabha was very low, and the Chair's inclination was somewhat on the other side. But we did not waver from our resolve to serve the country with pride.» «I want to tell the people of the country that the decision you have made, the order you have given us to serve, neither Modi nor this government will be afraid of any such obstacles. We will fulfill the resolutions we have set out to achieve,» Modi had said.

Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar in a hotel redevelopment case, Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Sanjay Raut remarked on Saturday that it seems even Dawood might receive a clean chit soon. «What else can happen? Now the only one left to receive a clean chit is Dawood. Ravindra Waikar deserted Uddhav Thackeray to join the Shinde group out of fear of the ED,» Raut stated. Waikar, his wife, and four close associates were implicated in a case registered by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The case involved the construction of a star hotel in Jogeshwari, located in Mumbai's western suburbs, allegedly involving manipulation of land use conditions.
