India developing Chabahar Port holds 'great value' to landlocked Central Asian states: PM Modi
Iran's Chabahar Port not only holds «great value» to landlocked Central Asian states but also «de-risks» commerce between India and Eurasia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Astana to attend the SCO Summit, delivered Modi's remarks at the extended format meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State here in the Kazakh capital. He also said, «While standing resolute on challenges, it is equally important to actively and collaboratively explore avenues of progress. The current global debate is focused on creating new connectivity linkages that would better serve a rebalanced world.» «If this is to gather serious momentum, it requires the joint efforts of many. It must also be respectful of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and be built on the foundation of non-discriminatory trade and transit rights to neighbours.»

Rahul Dravid earns praise from Anand Mahindra after former India coach refuses Rs 2.5 crore extra bonus
Anand Mahindra lauded Rahul Dravid, calling him a true role model and highlighting the mark of his character. Mahindra’s praise came in response to Dravid's commendable decision regarding a an extra bonus offered by the BCCI. According to a Press Trust of India report, former India head coach Rahul Dravid recently refused an additional bonus of Rs 2.5 crore offered by the BCCI following India’s T20 World Cup triumph in the Americas. Despite the board’s intention to reward him with Rs 5 crore, equal to the players' bonuses, Dravid chose to accept only the due amount of Rs 2.5 crore, what the other coaching staff got. Dravid’s tenure as India coach was originally set to end after the previous year’s 50-over World Cup, but he stayed on through the T20 World Cup at the behest of skipper Rohit Sharma and the BCCI, who felt it was too short notice to bring in a new coach. After successfully concluding his tenure as India’s head coach with a World Cup win, Dravid is contemplating his next career move. There are speculations about him joining an IPL franchise as a mentor. However, for now, he seems keen on taking a step back to relax after over two years of intense coaching.

Is there efficacy of expunction in era of live telecast, digital media?
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expunged portions of Rahul Gandhi's speech, questions were raised over the efficacy of this move in times of live telecast and digital media. Rule 380 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha vests the Speaker with power to order expunction of words — which in his opinion are «defamatory, or indecent or unparliamentary or undignified» — from the proceedings of the House. Birla ordering expunction of Gandhi's remarks, including on Hinduism, means that parts of the speech will not be included in official record. It also means that expunged parts will be erased from video recordings of Lok Sabha TV. This is done to make it consistent with the official printed version. So while Gandhi may have scored immediate political brownie points with his speech in Lok Sabha, the expunction will mean that official records will not reflect the deleted portions.

Rahul Gandhi behaving like 'unruly student leader', says Uma Bharti
BJP leader Uma Bharti on Tuesday said Congress MP Rahul Gandhi behaved like an undisciplined student leader when he made his maiden speech as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and must remember that he was now a «middle-aged man.» Hindus have been victims of violence, she said, commenting on the Congress leader's remarks in Parliament which drew strong protests from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. «Hindus have either been victims of violence or have faced violence,» Bharti, a former Union minister, said in a post on X. Rahul Gandhi's behaviour and speech in Parliament did not behove an opposition leader but was like «that of an unruly ('uchshrankhal') student leader» in college, she added.

Broken all parliamentary norms: Congress slams PM for apparent Ansari reference in LS speech
Congress on Saturday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke all parliamentary norms by accusing the then Rajya Sabha chairman Hamid Ansari of having an «inclination» towards the opposition when the BJP came to power in 2014. In his reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address in the Lok Sabha on July 2, Modi said, «No matter how many numbers they claim, when we came in 2014, our strength in the Rajya Sabha was very low, and the Chair's inclination was somewhat on the other side. But we did not waver from our resolve to serve the country with pride.» «I want to tell the people of the country that the decision you have made, the order you have given us to serve, neither Modi nor this government will be afraid of any such obstacles. We will fulfill the resolutions we have set out to achieve,» Modi had said.

"Now clean chit is left to be given to Dawood," says Shiv Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut
Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar in a hotel redevelopment case, Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Sanjay Raut remarked on Saturday that it seems even Dawood might receive a clean chit soon. «What else can happen? Now the only one left to receive a clean chit is Dawood. Ravindra Waikar deserted Uddhav Thackeray to join the Shinde group out of fear of the ED,» Raut stated. Waikar, his wife, and four close associates were implicated in a case registered by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The case involved the construction of a star hotel in Jogeshwari, located in Mumbai's western suburbs, allegedly involving manipulation of land use conditions.
