India vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI: Pitch report, Colombo weather, live streaming, match timing and Rohit Sharma's new plan
Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, several strategic adjustments are on the agenda. The series, which has so far been marked by tight contests, will see the teams clash again on August 7 for the final ODI. The focus will be on India's approach to countering a sluggish pitch and Sri Lanka's arsenal of spin bowlers, who proved effective in the first ODI. For India, this means finding ways to counteract the spin bowlers and establishing solid batting partnerships. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will look to build on their successful strategy and adjust to the absence of a key player. The outcome of this match will be pivotal in determining the series winner and will set the stage for an exciting final ODI on August 7.

US General arrives in Middle East as Israel prepares for possible Iranian attack
US Central Command's General Michael Kurilla arrived in the region on Saturday amid preparations for a possible attack by Iran on Israel in response to the recent killings of senior Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, US-based news website Axios reported, citing two US officials. General Kurilla's visit, which was planned before the recent escalation between Israel, Iran, and Hezbollah following the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, is now seen as a strategic move. He is expected to mobilise the international and regional coalition that previously defended Israel against an attack from Iran on April 13, Axios reported, citing a US official. Three US and Israeli officials said that they expect Iran to launch an attack on Israel as early as Monday. Iranian and Hezbollah leaders have pledged to retaliate for the killings of Hezbollah's top military commander, Fuad Shukr, and Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Charting the global economy: Top central banks differ on rates
interest rates this week as a long-awaited, but potentially short-lived, divergence in monetary policies deepens. The Bank of Japan kicked off the action on Wednesday by unexpectedly hiking before the Federal Reserve decided to stay on hold while signaling a potential cut in September. On Thursday, the Bank of England lowered borrowing costs for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Data out Friday showed US hiring slowed markedly in July and the unemployment rate rose to an almost three-year high, raising recession concerns and putting the Fed solidly on a path to cutting interest rates in September. It also spurred a deep selloff in the stock market.

Pakistan mission in Dhaka suspected of backing anti-Hasina movement
Bangladesh has accused the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka of interfering in the internal affairs of the country through its tacit support and active guidance to the radical student protestors in the country. This comes as the movement led by radical Jamaat-e-Islami and the opposition BNP intensified in Bangladesh. Several reports suggested that the Pakistan mission is in touch with a section of student protesters belonging to pro-Pakistan Jamaat, which is banned in Bangladesh. The country has seen weeks of often violent protests over Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led government's decision to offer quota in government jobs to children of 1971 freedom fighters as opposed to family members of pro-Pakistan and anti-liberation figures during the country's freedom struggle.

HC upholds order accepting cancellation report in BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain rape case
Delhi High Court has upheld an order accepting cancellation report filed by the police in a complaint filed against BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain alleging rape and criminal intimidation. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna said there was no infirmity in the order passed by the additional sessions judge (ASJ) and dismissed the revision petition filed by the complainant challenging the December 2023 order. «In the present case, the overwhelming independent ocular, documentary and scientific evidence collected during the investigations, whereby the presence of the respondent no.2 (Hussain) and complainant on the date of the alleged incident at the place of alleged incident… is completely ruled out, the possibility of the commission of alleged offence is rendered zilch. »Hence, the conclusion of the ASJ in accepting the cancellation report has to be upheld. In view of the foregoing discussions, there is no infirmity in the impugned order dated December 16, 2023 and the revision petition is hereby dismissed," the high court said in the order which was passed on Friday and made available on Saturday.
