Disney is getting closer to its goal of breaking even in streaming this year, paring direct-to-consumer losses in its first quarterly earnings since Chief Executive Bob Iger fended off dueling proxy campaigns. The media giant’s streaming unit lost $18 million in the March quarter, an improvement from a $659 million loss in the year-earlier quarter. Iger said the company is on track to achieve streaming profitability in the final quarter of the fiscal year that ends in September.

Why Saurabh Mukherjea isn't losing sleep over stress in HDFC Bank, Kotak and Bajaj Finance
Three financial giants HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Bajaj Finance, which is almost half of PMS fund manager Saurabh Mukherjea's Kings of Capital portfolio, are having a tough time. But the star stock picker isn't the one to switch sides when the going gets tough. «If you find a high-quality company where you have great faith in the quality of the promoter, great faith in the management, and the shares have come off to low valuations, you double down,» Mukherjea told ETMarkets in an interview. He also lists three reasons why Kotak Mahindra Bank, which has lost its valuation premium over regulatory and top management exits, will bounce back. Edited excerpts from a chat with Saurabh Mukherjea, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Marcellus Investment Managers: Three stocks in your portfolio — HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Bajaj Finance — have been in the news for RBI’s ire. How big do you think regulatory risk can be for lenders? Saurabh Mukherjea: With highly-regulated industries you have to accept the smooth with the rough.

Equitable survival: Climate action needs to be gender just
The European Court of Human Rights recently ruled in favour of KlimaSeniorinnen (Senior Women for Climate Protection), an association of more than 2,000 Swiss women, all above the age of 64, who had filed a case against the Swiss government for its failure to cut greenhouse gas emissions, which has put them at a greater risk of dying during heatwaves because of their age and gender. The ruling made the Swiss government accountable for violating its citizens’ Right to Life and Health, and created a binding legal precedent for all 46 countries that are part of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Deepak Shenoy wants to buy LIC & BSE on further fall. Here’s why
Deepak Shenoy, Founder, Capital Mind, says “I believe longer term, LIC is still a good play. Even from here, the fourth quarter is likely to be pretty good because they recognise a certain set of revenues only in the fourth quarter related to their participating policies, the 7.5% of profit that they will share with shareholders is taken out entirely in the fourth quarter, so that will be a fairly large chunk to add. Also we are still buying BSE because despite what happened recently in terms of SEBI giving them a notice about paying up for the options volumes on a notional basis rather than on a premium basis, they have increased their rates and perhaps are going to recover any future charges from customers directly.”

Creating short positions in the market; expect 1,000-4,000 pts correction post election: Aditya Arora
Aditya Arora, Adlytick, says “markets are pretty overvalued in terms of PE ratio, price to book ratio and technically also. We believe there will be a correction of 1,000 to 4,000 points from the top. If we see a good outcome in the election, there could be a short-term spike in the market. So, whatever is the top for the market, from there we see a correction of 1,000 to 4,000 points. We can see froth all over – in midcaps, smallcaps and largecaps also, although largecaps are already correcting. So, we are creating short positions in the market on the rise.” What is your view on the market right now? How would you trade in Nifty, Bank Nifty? What is your positioning? Or are you sitting out right now? Aditya Arora: We are positioned in the market, preparing for a 1,000-4,000 point of correction in Nifty post election. The reason is that a lot of people have priced in great growth in markets post election expecting the BJP government to come back to power. If you look at PE multiples of various stocks and sectors, then it is touching sky high levels.

"Cannot support an operation in Rafah as it is currently envisioned": US
Rafah the way it is envisioned as of now. «We've made quite clear our position on Rafah for some time, which is that we cannot support an operation in Rafah as it is currently envisioned. We have made clear — the Secretary made this clear in his conversations with Prime Minister Netanyahu and other members of the Israeli Government last week — that we have not seen a humanitarian plan that is credible and that is implementable,» State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press briefing on Monday (local time).

Winnipeg man admits to killing 4 women but says he’s not criminally responsible
A man has admitted in court that he killed four women in Winnipeg, but his lawyers are asking he be found not criminally responsible because of mental illness.Court of King’s Bench Chief Justice Glenn Joyal said Monday the question of Jeremy Skibicki’s mental capacity and intent will now be the focus of the trial. The Crown agreed the trial, which was supposed to be with a jury, will instead be heard by a judge alone because of complexities with this type of defence.“Concluding this matter before a jury does pose some challenges,” said prosecutor Christian Vanderhooft. The trial is to start Wednesday.Skibicki, 37, has pleaded not guilty to four counts of first-degree murder. His lawyers argued last week for the case to be heard in front of a judge alone. They said a jury trial would infringe on Skibicki’s rights to a fair trial because of significant pretrial publicity. The lawyers also expressed concerns a jury would have negative views of Skibicki using a not criminally responsible defence.

Six months wait for new telecom law rules, DoT plugging all gaps to ensure no flaws
Indian telecom firms too want fair share of revenues from internet companies “The new law covers much more than what the earlier laws used to cover. Some licences that have been given in the last six to seven years will remain active as per rules of the older Acts. It has to be ensured that they continue and the new laws don’t create any conflict, that itself will take a lot of time.

Taking legal advice on returning looted corruption money to people: PM Modi
Andhra Pradesh): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said he was taking legal advice on how to return the money of poor people 'looted' in corruption. Referring to the seizure of «mounds of cash» by the Enforcement Directorate from the domestic help allegedly linked to the secretary of a Jharkhand minister, Modi wondered why such persons were «close to the Congress' first family.» «They have made the worker's house a godown of corruption. This is not the first time as a bigger seizure was made from an MP (in Jharkhand) earlier also and it was such a big cache that even machines were tired of counting.» The PM was addressing a rally at Vemagiri here, which was attended by TDP leader Nara Lokesh and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan.
