PM using 'imagination' in his speeches not speaking on basis of facts: Priyanka Gandhi
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been «using his imagination a lot» in his speeches of late and not speaking on the basis of facts. Her remarks came a day after Prime Minister Modi claimed the Congress will reverse the Supreme Court verdict on the Ram temple if voted to power just like its landmark 1985 ruling in the Shah Bano case was overturned by the Rajiv Gandhi government as part of the party's appeasement politics. In an exclusive interview with PTI while on the campaign trail in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli from where her brother Rahul Gandhi is contesting the Lok Sabha polls, the Congress general secretary challenged the prime minister to speak on issues of unemployment, price rise and farmers' plight. Asked about her assessment of the ground situation after three rounds of the seven-phase polls, Priyanka Gandhi said, «My assessment is that people are wanting change. Everywhere I go I get the sense that people are fed up now of being lied to, they are fed up with the level of discussion that is taking place in the media and on political stages.»

Was Sanju Samson right to argue with umpires? RR Head Coach Kumar Sangakkara says, ‘Even if we have a different opinion'
Sanju Samson (84), looking in fine touch, played a shorter delivery from Mukesh Kumar down the ground only to have the ball caught by Shai Hope close to the boundary line. The decision on whether the catch was clean was left to the third umpire, who quickly ruled that Shai Hope was inside the boundary line when he took the catch. However, the Rajasthan Royals captain wasn't happy with the third umpire's decision after seeing the replays and continued to argue with the on-field umpires despite being given out before heading back to the pavilion.

If choice is between Narendra Modi & Rahul Gandhi, I have no doubt people will opt for Modi: Swaminathan Aiyar
Swaminathan Aiyar, Consulting Editor, ET Now, says “BJP may have many jewels, but Mr Modi is Koh-i-Noor. The biggest thing the BJP has going for it is Mr Modi. And at the end of it all, you can have 25 different analyses of different issues. But if the stark choice is, do you want Mr Narendra Modi or do you want Mr Rahul Gandhi? I have no doubt that people will opt for Mr Modi, whatever their other reservations are. Whether he gets an increased majority or a reduced majority is another matter. But even if the BJP loses 100 seats, they will get more parties with them and so surely Mr Modi will be back.” On inflation the prime minister has cited the Korean War during the Nehru regime and he has spoken about how inflation was the highest during Indira Gandhi's time. Up front, what do you make of this historical context that the prime minister is referencing on inflation and the impact of the war in Ukraine, which he says affects food, fertiliser and fuel prices directly? Swaminathan Aiyar: He recalls inflation back in the early 50s. It is a fact that the Korean War resulted in a shortage of all kinds of commodities, which were being used for the war effort on both sides. Because of that very steep rise in all commodity prices, there was an increase in price in India too. While it is true that there were a certain number of restrictions on imports, actually imports were pretty free in the early 50s. Therefore, there was an impact.

"British Raj-like conditions" prevailing in India under PM Modi's rule: Priyanka Gandhi
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said that under the reign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, "British Raj-like conditions" are prevailing in the country, with the government policies only benefiting billionaires. «British Raj-like conditions are prevalent in the country. The policies of the Modi government are not being made keeping in mind the poor but have been made to benefit the billionaires. International reports show that today the condition of inequality in India is worse than British rule,» Priyanka Gandhi said on Tuesday while addressing Congress workers in the Rae Bareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh, where her brother and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is contesting. «All the institutions which strengthen democracy are being weakened, be it media or Parliament. Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru had fought against the British to strengthen the rights of the people, little did they know that a day would come in independent India when the government would be bent upon depriving the people of their rights,» she added.

Income Tax: Want to opt out of the new tax regime? Here is a step-by-step guide
new tax regime. And if you want to switch to the old tax regime and make use of the provisions such as tax exemptions entitled under section 80C and 80D — key provisions missing in the new regime, then you need to first opt out of the default i.e., new regime. Alternatively, if you want to make use of the lower tax slabs given in the new tax regime as a trade-off for the foregone tax exemptions, then you don’t need to go for this switch.
