SEC Election Justice MCD Courts rights NOT No bar on political parties from contesting municipal polls, allocation of symbols not arbitrary: HC
Delhi High Court has said there is no bar under the Constitution on political parties, which are granted recognition by the State Election Commission (SEC), from contesting municipal polls. The court has also said the allocation of poll symbols to political parties by the SEC for municipal elections is reasonable and not arbitrary. The court passed an order to this effect while dismissing a petition that had sought a direction to the SEC here to stop putting the reserved symbols for political parties on the list of contesting candidates. The plea had also sought a direction to the SEC to conduct the election to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) without the reserved symbols, which allegedly violated the petitioner's fundamental rights as enshrined under Article 14 (equality before law) of the Constitution.

Ball wellness information stars testing rights cricket Riyan Parag's potential is there for everyone to see: RR's Sangakkara
Royals director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara has praised the inform Riyan Parag, saying his potential is there for everyone to see but the Sri Lankan legend fell short of stating that the youngster deserves a place in India's T20 World Cup squad. The 22-year-old is second only to Virat Kohli in the leading run-getter's list this IPL season having scored 261 runs, with a top score of 84 not out and a strike rate exceeding 158. The hard hitter's 76 off 48 balls went in vain as Gujarat Titans overhauled the imposing 196-run total off the last ball of the innings here on Wednesday to break the Royals' four-match winning streak on Wednesday. «I think his (Parag's) potential is there for everyone to see. I think for Riyan it's really about concentrating on Rajasthan and this season, and whatever happens (being considered for T20 World Cup) will happen after that,» said Sangakkara in response to a question about whether the Assam cricketer could be in line for an India berth for the World Cup later this year in the West Indies and the USA.

markets COST Target CEO Schools rights Knee-deep in smallcaps? It’s time you rebalanced your portfolio
Swarup Mohanty, Vice Chairman & CEO, Mirae Asset Global Investments, says “every fund manager will ask you to buy a good company at a good price. You have to decide how much of your portfolio is invested in good companies and the good companies are invariably the larger companies which have more from a balance sheet stability perspective. So, if you have bought more of the smaller companies, it is time to rebalance and that would be the right way of going ahead.” Good to see that despite the kind of volatility that we have seen in the stock markets, the SIP data continues unabated. What is your own expectation of what the next realistic target should be for the SIP figures on a monthly basis? Swarup Mohanty: It has become the go-to way of investing broadly for Indians. It is such a wonderful process of investing. It does allow investors to catch volatility like this and then over a period of time, the rupee cost averaging does set in. So, the process of investing through SIP is always the disciplined way and hence I think more and more Indians are catching on to it, 19,200 per month as we speak. My figure for December 2024 is 25,000. I do not see any stoppage of this at all. So, yes, I mean, great to be at the receiving end of the SIP flows.

markets Provident Platform security Trade country rights SBI, ICICI may act as third-party liaisons for European banks
State Bank of India and ICICI Bank, two of the country's top three lenders, are likely to act as local intermediaries for European banks seeking a plan for third-party clearing after last month's meeting between top Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials and those from certain European banks, sources told ET. The proposal for local banks to carry out third-party clearing for the European banks comes on the back of a decision by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) in October 2022 to de-recognise the Clearing Corporation of India (CCIL). ESMA's step came after the RBI refused to permit the foreign body rights of inspection and audit over the CCIL, which hosts the trading platform and provides guaranteed settlement for Indian government bonds and interest rate derivatives. Pending a resolution of the matter, foreign banks have a deadline of October 2024 to stop transacting with the CCIL.

Man Citizens Election show country rights Last 10 years just an 'appetizer', main course in third term: PM Modi
Narendra Modi on Wednesday slammed the Congress for its allegation that the Bharatiya Janata Party if it comes to power will change the country's constitution. The Prime Minister said that the development done in the last ten years was just an 'appetizer' and the main course would come in the third term and that his victory in the 2024 polls was a foregone conclusion if the opposition was raising doubts on the EVM. «The opposition is claiming that the constitution would be changed if the BJP comes to power and there would be no elections if the BJP comes to power, this clearly shows that they have become bankrupt for issues because we are hearing this stale line since the time of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Was democracy not under threat during the emergency. When a poor man's son like me becomes the Prime Minister, the Congress feels democracy is at stake,» said Modi while addressing a rally in Ramtek constituency in Nagpur. Slamming the Congress further, Modi said that it was only the BJP government that respected the constitution. «If you (Cong) really liked the constitution then why for several years it was not applicable in Jammu and Kashmir. It was our government that gave the same constitution in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier there was no reservation for the SC/ST's and women in the state were not getting their rights. The Congress gave Article 370 that fanned separatism and terrorism in Kashmir. They (Cong) are trying to fool the people of the country in the name of the constitution,» said the Prime Minister.

UPS Citi Provident Enterprise Election rights stake High-stake battle in Coimbatore - 'Manchester of South India'
Coimbatore, where BJP has fielded its Tamil Nadu chief, DMK has taken the seat back from ally CPIM to put its own candidate and AIADMK has its IT wing head in the fray. CPIM's PR Natarajan, backed by DMK, had won the Lok Sabha seat in 2019 with a vote share of 45.66%, with BJP's CP Radhakrishnan coming in second, getting 31.34% of the votes polled. In this election, DMK has fielded Ganapathy P Rajkumar, a former Coimbatore mayor who joined the party in 2020 after leaving AIADMK, going against its decade-long seat-sharing agreement with CPM for the seat, possibly anticipating a tough fight owing to BJP candidate Annamalai's growing popularity. AIADMK candidate is Singai Ramachandran. Annamalai is predicting BJP to win the seat with 60% votes. Coimbatore, comprising the assembly segments of Coimbatore South, Coimbatore North, Kavundampalayam, Singanallur, Sulur and Palladam, is one of the constituencies in the South where BJP is putting a lot of focus, making its rival parties also to be on high alert. The constituency has seen repeated visits by high-profile leaders to back their candidates. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Coimbatore again on Wednesday. AAP leader Atishi on Wednesday alleged that the BJP was «openly» violating the model code of conduct and the Election Commission was not acting against it, affecting the level-playing field in the Lok Sabha polls. In an interview to PTI, she said the AAP was hopeful of opening its account in Assam where the party has fielded candidates in two seats — Dibrugarh and Sonitpur, which are going to the polls in the first phase on April 19. «Yesterday AAP had a rally in Tinsukia. We applied for permission before the BJP. But as Amit Shah was coming for a roadshow, AAP's permission was denied. We were made to change our routes and our timing. Our party workers and volunteers were not allowed to reach the location,» she claimed. «Openly and brazenly the model code of conduct was violated by the BJP, and yet there was no action from the EC,» Atishi added.
