India definitely richly valued; but still is a paradise for picking stocks: Porinju Veliyath
«Many people may be feeling getting carried away with the kind of wealth being created in India as an equity investor, this is something once in a century kind of thing happening and when we feel this is likely to continue for next 5, 10, 20 years, that is more exciting,» says Porinju Veliyath, Equity Intelligence India. But like they say on when it is birthday, that means gifts and gifts for ET Now means gifts for ET Now viewers. And gifts from Porinju is always is if you give stock ideas and tips. I think, investors have been very-very blessed and happy in the last many years, especially after the COVID. I used to always use this word lucky, lucky to be in this profession, lucky to be in this domain. It is not a small thing. Many people may be feeling getting carried away with the kind of wealth being created in India as an equity investor, this is something once in a century kind of thing happening and when we feel this is likely to continue for next 5, 10, 20 years, that is more exciting.

Fund Manager Talk | Rally in rail, defence stocks at execution risk: Krishnan VR
Extended valuations in some sectors like railways, defence, renewables and other capex driven plays could be at risk especially if any delay in execution and resultant earnings disappointments, says Krishnan VR, Chief of Quantitative Research team at Marcellus Investment Managers. Edited excerpts from a chat: Take us through the performance of MeritorQ PMS in May. What worked? The portfolio was up 1.7% in May compared to 0.8% for the benchmark BSE 500 total return index. Because many portfolio companies reported their fourth quarter (and full year) results last month, the performance was partly driven by positive earnings surprises. Performance was fairly broad-based with roughly half of the portfolio stocks outperforming the benchmark. Our analysis also shows that MeritorQ’s strategy of buying undervalued yet fundamentally strong companies, typically delivers positive excess returns around earnings dates, because the relative mispricing has higher chance of correcting as new positive information is released at earnings announcement.

Nifty in a narrow range between 23,300-23,500. How to trade this week
Nifty is stuck in a narrow range between 23300-23500, and a break on either side will lead to trending moves, says Kunal Shah, Senior Technical & Derivative Analyst at LKP Securities. “The underperformance of BankNifty is preventing Nifty from moving higher; for Nifty to break on the higher side, BankNifty must start performing. The undertone remains bullish, and one should adopt a buy approach on a breakout above 23500, targeting 23,800-24,000,” he says.
