Inside Out 2, which hit theaters on June 14, director Kelsey Mann is already contemplating the future of Riley's emotional odyssey. The sequel continues Riley's growth as she navigates the challenges of high school, introducing new emotions like Anxiety, Envy, and Nostalgia.
Mann shared in an interview with USA Today that despite some ideas left on the cutting room floor for Inside Out 2, there's a burgeoning stockpile of concepts ready for a potential third installment.
Mann expressed enthusiasm about the overwhelming audience response and hinted at the potential richness of a third movie:
«There's something about the ‘Inside Out’ world where it's met with open arms. Everybody's like, ‘What age is she? I can't wait to hear where she is in her life'. [We have] a whole stockpile of ideas. They're too good, they're too funny, they're too interesting for them not to be tapped into. So I have no idea where the future will go, (but) it should continue because I think it's something that the audience really wants.”, as mentioned in a report by Screenrant.
With Inside Out 2's exceptional box office performance, grossing an estimated $140 to $150 million in its domestic opening weekend against a $200 million budget, speculation about a sequel is rife.
