Trend of IT services companies not hiring or reducing headcount will continue for now: Rituparna Chakraborty, TeamLease
Rituparna Chakraborty, Co-Founder, TeamLease, says “artificial intelligence, automation, robotics, will get into every aspect of our lives and the way we do things even in our workplaces. But having said that, it does not mean that all jobs are going away. It is a call to action for all of us that the kind of skill sets that we are empowering our youth with, definitely needs to be changed, which means there will be demand for higher skill sets. So, the skill sets with which kids are able to find jobs, is not how it is going to be for our youth for the next five years or the decades that we will see. The sooner we prepare ourselves for this inevitable outcome, the better it is.” What is the story? I have always seen that a sector like IT only hires, hires, hires, and hires. Now they are not hiring. Rituparna Chakraborty: We have gotten so used to the technology sector being a net employment generator for the economy that on the face of it, it seems disappointing and shocking to some extent.

Our aspiration is to make Persistent a $2 billion plus company in next three years: CEO
Sandeep Kalra, CEO, Persistent Systems, says “as we go ahead, as the market conditions stabilise, that will give us the opportunity to have the leverage of all the investments we have done whether they are in the next generation technologies like generative AI or increased sales and marketing investments, etc, and that should help us take the margin up. We still stand by our aspiration of growing the margins by 200 to 300 basis points over the next two to three years.” Your conference call commentary was that your FY25 margins will be similar to FY24, but that has missed Street expectations. What are the headwinds or are you being conservative? Sandeep Kalra: From a margin perspective, what we are saying is this. The margin has to be looked at in the context of the revenue growth that we deliver. So, if we are going to be looking at a revenue growth which is somewhere in similar lines as what we have done in this year, that is what our aspiration is, then at that point in time you have to optimise for one or the other.

What to expect from consumer durable stocks going ahead? Sandip Sabharwal answers
«Among the new stocks which we have bought has been after the AC story and I think consumer durable uptick is expected, I believe one company which is on the durable side, which has also been in doldrums because of various factors has been Crompton Greaves Consumer and it is a big player in the fans market and I believe along with AC the fan market revival is also very significant and it has not really gone anywhere over the last few years,» says Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com. Everyone is of the view that if you buy into Vodafone FPO, if you are subscribing to it, you were getting it at a discount. The underlying price Rs 13 if you are getting at the FPO sub-11 rupees which means there is a nice little arbitrage to be made here. It is a bull market and a lot of people are trying to play this thing. In fact, I got queries that should we sell off Bharti Airtel and move that money into Vodafone Idea.

Homemaker from Assam clears class X exam alongside daughter after 16 years
Assam cleared the Class X state board examination alongside her teenage daughter. This achievement comes 16 years after Mazia Khatun of Silamari village in Biswanath district had to abandon her studies due to marriage. Mazia and her 16-year-old daughter, Afsana, both enrolled at the local FA Ahmed High School, earning second-division results. According to a TOI report, Mazia secured 49% marks while her daughter Afsana achieved 52%, a testament to the mother's resolve to complete her education. Despite her earlier ambition to appear for the Class X board exams, marriage in 2006 forced Mazia to give up on her dreams. After her marriage, she became an Anganwadi worker, where her colleagues mostly had a matriculation qualification. The journey back to education was not easy, but Mazia's focus was on proving to herself and her family that she could pass the exam. She said, «I just wanted to prove that I have the talent to pass Class X at least.» Her main motivation, however, was to encourage her children to pursue higher education. «I don't want to study further; I just want my children to complete their education,» Mazia added. Reflecting on her experience, she noted, «I was one of seven brothers and sisters. My family found a suitable groom for me, and I got married in 2006. But I hope in future, parents will wait at least till their children complete their education.»

Water crisis a signal for Bengaluru to step up infra game, says ex-IIMB faculty Rajeev Gowda, contesting Bengaluru North for Congress
water crisis and its impact on tech corridors must come as a warning to Bengaluru to improve its infrastructure, MV Rajeev Gowda, a former IIMB professor contesting polls from Bengaluru North as Congress candidate, told ET. “If we don't create and maintain a healthy ecosystem where industries can flourish, other states may lure them away,” he said, referring to Kerala wooing investors from tech giants in Bengaluru to consider the coastal state for investments, promising plenty of water and other facilities. Gowda (60), son of former Assembly Speaker MV Venkatappa, will be facing off against BJP MP & Union MoS Shobha Karandlaje in a high-stakes battle in the 33 lakh-voters strong constituency on Friday. Entering the electoral fray for the first time, he is also the vice-chairman of the State Institute for Transformation of Karnataka (SITK), the state-own version of Niti Aayog, and has worked on metro-feeder buses in the city.

Good time to take some money off the table: Nischal Maheshwari
«This current quarter is showing some signs of improvement there. So, overall, good set of numbers. We have a buy on Reliance. We continue to maintain the buy,» says Nischal Maheshwari, Centrum Broking. What is your view on Reliance Industries, pretty much in line with what the Street was expecting? How have you read into the numbers? Was there an anticipation that there would be some further announcement? I agree with you. I think more or less in line with the results. What I am excited about between the three of the businesses, I think is retail. Retail has done very well and I think one of the interesting things which they have put out is now they have three in-house brands which have crossed Rs 2000 crores of revenue.
