IVPA calls for lifting suspension on oil seeds commodity derivatives
Indian Vegetable Oil Producers Association (IVPA) feels that better price risk management and price discovery can come through revoking the suspension of the oil seeds commodity derivative contracts. Sudhakar Rao Desai, CEO of Emami Agrotech and president of IVPA said «The agri industry and agriculture commodities and ecosystem which comprises of various participants and stakeholders, who contribute substantially to India’s agri value chain and agri economy has suffered immensely due to the protracted and prolonged suspension of exchange-traded commodity derivatives. IVPA has been a strong proponent of supporting the cause of income improvisation and enhanced price risk management. „ “IVPA believes that better price risk management and price discovery can come through revoking the suspension of the oil seeds commodity derivative contracts. In light of the findings that the studies conducted by leading economic study institutions such as BIMTECH and SJM School of Management, IIT Bombay has clearly articulated – that futures trading not only aids the process of price discovery and sets pricing benchmarks for agri commodities across spot markets, eventually impacting the retail markets positively – but allows for better crop planning at the farmers end, ultimately benefiting the entire value chain,» he said.

'Colonial mindset': Supreme Court schools bureaucrats for mistreating sarpanches, discriminating against women
Supreme Court has strongly criticised the ongoing tendency among bureaucrats to override the authority of elected representatives, particularly women, in grassroots democratic institutions such as panchayats. In a significant ruling, the top court said that administrative officials must actively support and promote women's participation and leadership in governance, rather than suppressing them with a colonial mindset. A bench led by Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan voiced concern over the recurring pattern of bureaucratic interference, where elected women representatives are often subjected to unfair treatment.

Air pollution: GRAP IV measures except relating to schools will continue to operate till December 2, says SC
Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that all measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-IV), except those affecting schools, will remain in force until 2 December. The court emphasised the urgency of taking action against officials responsible for «serious lapses» in implementing these anti-pollution measures. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) informed the court that show-cause notices had been issued to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner, and the Delhi Transport Department for failing to comply with orders aimed at curbing air pollution in the capital. The court criticised the authorities, citing a report that revealed an «abject failure» to enforce GRAP-IV restrictions effectively.
