Agniveers will get 20 pc reservation in state police recruitment: Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini
Nayab Singh Saini Sunday said 'Agniveers' will be provided 20 per cent reservation in the police recruitment in the state. In July 2024, months ahead of state assembly polls, the BJP government in the state had announced a 10 per cent reservation for Agniveers in the recruitment of constables, forest guards and jail wardens, along with quotas in other posts. Chairing a review meeting in Panchkula on Sunday, Saini said Haryana is the first state in the country which has secured the future of Agniveers by creating a provision for jobs after their service period in the armed forces. The Haryana Cabinet has already provided security cover to the Agniveers by implementing the Haryana Agniveer Policy-2024. According to an official statement, the chief minister said Agniveers will be provided 20 per cent reservation in the recruitment of state police. Saini said Agniveers will be able to get jobs in Haryana after their service period in the Army and for this, a separate portal will be created for them on which they can register themselves. After this, they will be given preference in jobs on the basis of educational qualification, he added.

This shows they have done something wrong.» On Wednesday, Punjab Police said that adequate security has still been provided to ShiromAkal Dal (SAD) General Secretary Bikram Singh Majithia, including a squad vehicle and gunmen. Account of Press Secretary to Bangladesh Chief Advisor on PM Modi-Yunus meeting is mischievous, politically motivated: Sources
Bangladesh Chief Advisor about the meeting of the Bangladesh leader Muhammad Yunus with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sources have dismissed the account as mischievous and politically motivated. Sources said on Saturday that the characterisation of PM Modi's remarks regarding the relationship between Yunus and the previous government was also inaccurate. The sources said underlined that PM Modi spoke of the progress in our bilateral relationship since 2014 and characterized it as a deep friendship between our societies and peoples. They said PM Modi also mentioned the importance of elections as the basis of legitimacy in any democracy. «A continued procrastination in this regard would damage the Chief Advisor's reputation. The Bangladeshi contention that attacks on minorities were a social media concoction was dismissed as being in contradiction of facts on the ground,» a source said.

US disbands immigration helpdesk that aided H-1B and green card applicants
H-1B visa holders, international students on F-1 visas, and green card applicants — with many from the Indian diaspora. The Ombudsman’s office handled nearly 30,000 requests last year, offering help with delays, errors, and application disputes, according to the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). Immigration attorneys say the closure will reduce transparency and accountability within the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). “Individuals or businesses sought assistance from the CIS Ombudsman for a variety of issues, ranging from erroneous rejections of filings and denials to typographical errors on secure documents (such as Green Cards and Employment Authorization Documents) and even mailing issues. Last year, the Ombudsman’s office assisted approximately 30,000 applicants,” Sharvari Dalal-Dheini, senior director for government relations at AILA, told TOI's Lubna Kably.

₹1.8 crore a year and still in debt? Bengaluru engineer’s viral budget sparks outrage
Posting on LinkedIn, a user identified as Aas Vora Jain described how, even with a take-home pay of ₹8.3 lakh a month, he ends up in a monthly deficit of ₹57,000. His claim instantly set off a flurry of reactions across social media, with some sympathising and many more ridiculing what they saw as an exaggerated account of luxury gone wrong. “I make ₹1.8 crore per year in Bangalore as a principal software engineer, and it's utterly unlivable,” Jain wrote. “Let's break it down. After taxes, my take-home is approximately ₹1 crore or ₹8.3 lakh/month.”

Sex toys, massage pillows and exploding cosmetics: Anatomy of a 'hybrid war' on the West
Fake cosmetics, massage pillows and sex toys. Crude homemade explosives. A Russian known as Warrior. A code word: Mary. These are among the key elements of a suspected Russian-run sabotage plot that led to three parcels being detonated at courier depots in Britain, Germany and Poland last summer, a person with knowledge of the Polish investigation told Reuters. The pillows, packed into the parcels with the cosmetics and sex toys, contained hidden homemade incendiary devices made of a cocktail of chemicals including highly reactive magnesium, according to the person familiar with the case who provided the most granular account yet of the alleged plot. The chemicals were ignited by pre-timed detonators adapted from cheap Chinese electronic gadgets used to track items like lost keys, with the effect enhanced by the tubes of what looked like cosmetics but in fact contained a gel made of flammable compounds including nitromethane, according to the source. «The proceedings in this case concern criminal activities inspired by Russia's GRU,» this person said, referring to Moscow's foreign military intelligence agency.

Senate GOP approves framework for Trump's tax breaks and spending cuts after all-night session
Senate Republicans plugged away overnight and into early Saturday morning to approve their multitrillion-dollar tax breaks and spending cuts framework, hurling past a hard line of Democratic opposition toward what President Donald Trump calls the «big, beautiful bill» that's central to his agenda. The vote, 51-48, fell along mostly party lines. It could not have come at a more difficult political moment. The U.S. economy is churning after Trump's vast tariff scheme sent stocks plummeting, and experts are warning of soaring costs for consumers at home and threats of a potential recession. Even some Republicans have expressed concerns. But with a nod from Trump GOP leaders held determined to march ahead. Approval paves the way for Republicans, in the months ahead, to try to power a tax cut bill through both chambers of Congress over the objections of Democrats, just as they did in Trump's first term with unified party control in Washington. «Let the voting begin,» Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said Friday night. The evening kicked off what's called vote-a-rama as Democrats were intent on making the effort as politically painful as possible, with votes on some two dozen amendments to the package that GOP senators will have to defend before next year's midterm elections.

"PM Modi should raise this issue firmly": Congress MP Pramod Tiwari backs Stalin's request on Katchatheevu island
«It has become a concerning issue for us, our fishermen and all the Indians. It is a matter related to security. The PM should raise this issue firmly. Even an inch of Indian land belongs to us. I support that it (Kachchatheevu Island) should be under the protection of India...It is ours,» Tiwari told ANI. This came after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday regarding the retrieval of Katchatheevu Island. The Tamil Nadu assembly passed a resolution on April 2 regarding the retrieval of Katchatheevu island to protect the traditional fishing rights of Indian fishermen in the Palk Bay area. The letter dated April 3, reads, «I am writing this letter to bring to your immediate attention to the Resolution passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 02.04.2025 regarding the retrieval of Katchatheevu island, to protect the traditional fishing rights of the Indian fishermen in the Palk Bay area. I would like to point out that the origin of the problem is the Indo-Sri Lankan Treaty (Katchatheevu Agreement) made between the two Countries in the year 1974.»

Govt cuts security cover for Manmohan Singh's wife Gursharan Kaur
A recent review of Kaur's security by central intelligence agencies has stipulated her to be placed under the Z category, the second-highest level of protection, according to the sources. Accordingly, the Union home ministry directed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) VIP security wing to scale down the number of personnel and protocol, according to the Z category, for Kaur, they said. She will have the protection of about a dozen armed commandos for her personal protection as well as for her home, the sources said. The change in categorisation of security has also led to the reduction of the number of Delhi Police personnel sanctioned for the Singhs, they said.
