RBI parachute gives falling rupee a glide path to avoid 84/$ breach
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been carrying out a nimble balancing act over the past couple of months to ensure exchange-rate stability, supplying dollars in a broader trade deficit environment, but not allowing the rupee to breach the psychologically crucial 84 mark to a dollar. Over the past month-and-a-half, the rupee has hit new lows versus the dollar on several occasions as speculation about a growth slowdown in the US has sparked risk aversion, weakening global investor appetite for emerging market currencies.

Writing is on the Court: 2024 Grand Slam season showed that ‘Big Three’ era of men’s tennis is finally over
Grand Slam season dominated by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz has provided the clearest sign yet that the «Big Three» era of men's tennis is finally over, with Novak Djokovic destined to be its last year-end number one. The golden rule that you should never write off Djokovic still holds true, but after he, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer had won at least one Grand Slam title between them every season since 2003, this year there were none. Sinner lifted the U.S. Open title on Sunday following his breakthrough Australian Open triumph in January, while Alcaraz won the French Open and Wimbledon to mark the first time since 1993 that men aged 23 or under had swept the Grand Slams.

Alberta men receive 6.5-year prison sentences for Coutts border protest
Coutts, Alta.Anthony Olienick showed no emotion while Chris Carbert appeared glum and folded his arms, as the sentence was read out in Court of King’s Bench on Monday.Neither are to serve their full sentences, as Justice David Labrenz gave them nearly four years credit for time they have already spent in custody. Both were convicted of mischief and possession of a firearm dangerous to the public peace, while Olienick was also found guilty of possession of a pipe bomb.A jury found them not guilty of the most serious charge they faced — conspiracy to murder police officers at the blockade. The blockade halted traffic at the border crossing for two weeks in 2022 in a protest of COVID-19 rules and vaccine mandates. The men were charged after RCMP found guns, ammunition and body armour in trailers near the blockade.Labrenz said while the men believed their cause just, they can’t be allowed to take the law into their own hands.“Both Olienick and Carbert used the blockade as a last stand against police,” the judge said in his sentencing decision.“(They) knew they were actively participating in something that was illegal, but they didn’t care because they thought their cause had been worthy.”He added, “The law does not allow people to take the law into their own hands.“Both men bear a high degree of moral culpability.”Olienick and Carbert have been in custody since they were arrested in February 2022.Prior to sentencing, they were given a chance to address the court.Carbert declined, but Olienick said he is a better man as a result of his time in custody.“It has given me time to indulge in God’s work,” he said, reading from a prepared statement.“I will continue to help others.”Olienick was given six years for possession for the

The stocks, bonds and currencies investors are watching during the Trump-Harris debate
Signs of angst are already mounting. A three-month measure of implied volatility for a key Bloomberg dollar gauge is near its highest mark since the March 2023 banking crisis. Equities’ so-called fear gauge is once again on the upswing after surging amid the market tumult of early August. Fixed-income traders are also weathering more turbulence, as mixed economic signals complicate bets on the scope and timing of Federal Reserve interest-rate cuts.

Jewish voters prefer Kamala Harris to Donald Trump, with 68% voting for her in U.S. Elections
Harris. The survey also reveals that 87% of Jewish voters in the United States support the Biden administration's efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas War that would free the Israeli hostages held in Gaza. The poll also shows that 87 % of the Jewish voters in America support the Biden administration in the effort to facilitate the release of the Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip through a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. According to a Jewish Democratic Council of America survey carried out, 68 percent of the voters who are Jewish agreed to vote for the Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, while 25 percent for the Republican nominee and the former president Donald Trump. The contentious campaign period, which presents important questions of which party is worse for American Jews in the current social media and presidential debates, seems to have little effect on the shift in opinions of Jewish voters. It also implies that the Republican Party's concerted efforts to increase the number of Jewish voters following October 7 have not produced much of an impact.

A new string of polls indicates warning signs for Kamala Harris
Trump with a 1-point national lead. The seven battleground states had close races, indicating that the race for the White House could go either way. Data indicated that although 90% of voters claimed to be fully informed about Trump, only 71% claimed to be fully informed about Harris. This implies that during the debate, when one of the biggest audiences of the campaign season will tune in to consider their choices, the vice president might have more at stake. After President Biden's disastrous debate, his withdrawal from the race, and Harris's entry, Democrats have experienced an emotional roller coaster. Now, polls indicate that Trump will likely continue to be strong regardless of his opponent.
