'Those opposing Waqf bill are not Muslims': Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman slams opposition, says 'It's 70 saal vs Modi Karyakal'
Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman Shadab Shams on Tuesday said that the poor Muslims have hopes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that it is «70 saal Vs Modi Karyakal» (PM Modi term). Speaking to ANI, the Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman said that the PM Modi-led central government has decided to bring the poor Muslims into the mainstream. «Poor Muslims have hopes from PM Modi, and that is why we have named this amendment bill as 'Ummeed'. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju is the ray of hope… PM Modi's government has decided that they will bring the poor Muslims into the mainstream. It is '70 saal Vs Modi Karyakal',» Shams said. He further attacked the opposition and said that the Opposition had 70 years, and they did whatever they could and «looted» Waqf. «They looted Waqf. They looted the rights of the poor… They are scaring the Muslims by saying that mosques would be taken away. Those who are opposing are not Muslims. They are political Muslims of Congress, Samajwadi Party, AAP and Janata Dal. There are NGOs and committees behind them, such as Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and the Muslim Personal Law Board, who want to go to the Rajya Sabha through a backdoor… All of them are Waqf beneficiaries. They are worried that it would be taken away from them… They are worried because it is going to be taken away from the rich. We are sure that PM Modi will pass the Waqf Amendment Bill and give the poor Muslims their rights,» he added.

US Senator Cory Booker sets new Senate record with over 24-hour speech against Donald Trump
In surpassing the previous record—held by the late segregationist Senator Strom Thurmond, who filibustered against the Civil Rights Act of 1957 for 24 hours and 18 minutes—Booker etched his name into Senate history. But unlike Thurmond, who fought against progress, Booker used his time to rally against what he sees as a dangerous consolidation of power. «I rise with the intention of disrupting the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able,» Booker said at the outset of his remarks. «I rise tonight because I believe sincerely that our country is in crisis,» Booker said.

Govt should immediately start decadal census, caste census: Kharge in RS
Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday asked the government to immediately start the decadal census as well as caste census, saying a large number of people are being left out of welfare schemes due to the delay. Expressing concern over the delay in conducting the decadal census during the Zero Hour in the House, the senior Congress leader said India has been conducting a census every 10 years since 1881. It was conducted even during wars, emergencies, or other crises. He recalled that back in 1931, a caste census was conducted along with the regular census. Right before the 1931 census, Mahatma Gandhi had said that just like 'we need periodic medical checkups to assess our health, a census is the most important checkup for a nation', Kharge stated. He said the census is a crucial exercise and involves a large number of people who collect data not just on population but also on employment, family structures, socio-economic conditions, and several other key aspects.

finished steel imports during the first 11 months of the financial year, which began in April, stood at 8.98 million metric tons, marking a 15.8% year-on-year increase, according to provisional government data reviewed by Reuters on Tuesday. India, the world's second-biggest crude steel producer, became a net importer in 2023/24, a trend that has continued with rising shipments from China, South Korea and Japan. Last month, India recommended a 12% temporary tax on certain steel products for 200 days, known as a safeguard duty, in an attempt to curb imports. South Korea was the biggest exporter of the alloy to India during April-February, with shipments reaching 2.6 million metric tons, up 7.1% year-on-year, the data showed. Finished steel imports from China totalled 2.4 million metric tons, down 5.3% year-on-year, while imports from Japan reached 1.9 million metric tons, marking a nearly 70% year-on-year increase, the data showed.
