White House blasts Musk's 'hideous' antisemitic lie, advertisers pause on X
White House on Friday condemned Elon Musk's endorsement of what it called a «hideous» antisemitic conspiracy theory on X, while major U.S. companies including Walt Disney Co, Warner Bros Discovery and NBCUniversal parent Comcast paused their advertisements on his social media site. Musk on Wednesday agreed with a post on X that falsely claimed Jewish people were stoking hatred against white people, saying the user who referenced the «Great Replacement» conspiracy theory was speaking «the actual truth.» That conspiracy theory holds that Jewish people and leftists are engineering the ethnic and cultural replacement of white populations with non-white immigrants that will lead to a «white genocide.» The White House accused Musk of an «abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate» that «runs against our core values as Americans.» «It is unacceptable to repeat the hideous lie… one month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust,» White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said, referring to the Oct.

Social media titans caught in Gaza storm over content
Hamas on Israel, social media platforms are still caught in the maelstrom, struggling to control content and withstand user fury. TikTok and X, formerly Twitter, were swept up in controversies this week, one involving an unearthing of a two-decade old screed by Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States. Facebook and Instagram owner Meta is also facing pushback from users accusing the company founded by Mark Zuckerberg of over-censorship of pro-Palestinian content. The problems have cast a harsh light on content moderation policies at the big platforms after a big cost-cutting campaign last year saw trust and safety teams gutted. For TikTok, the risks are real as it faces a threat to be outright banned in the United States, under suspicion that its powerful algorithm is ultimately under the control of the Chinese Communist Party. Those calls were renewed when it emerged on Thursday that videos promoting bin Laden's «Letter to America» went viral, 22 years after he wrote it. Bin Laden's deeply anti-American writing explained his reasons for masterminding plane attacks on New York and Washington that killed nearly 3,000 people. Searches for the letter were eventually banned by TikTok which minimized the reach of the videos.

SpaceX poised for second launch of mega Starship rocket
SpaceX is poised Saturday for the second test launch of Starship, the largest rocket ever built that Elon Musk hopes will one day colonize Mars, while NASA awaits a modified version to land humans on the Moon. It comes after a first attempt to fly the spaceship in its fully-stacked configuration back in April ended in a spectacular explosion over the Gulf of Mexico. SpaceX has insisted that explosions during the early stages of rocket development are welcome and help inform design choices faster than ground tests — though time is ticking down for a modified Starship to be ready for a planned lunar landing in 2025. Blast off from the company's Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas, is set for 7:00 am local time (1300 GMT) with a launch window of 20 minutes. The event will be live streamed on both SpaceX's website and on X, the social media platform owned by Musk. When the two stages of Starship are combined, the rocket stands 397 feet (121 meters) tall — beating the Statue of Liberty by a comfortable 90 feet. Its Super Heavy booster produces 16.7 million pounds (74.3 Meganewtons) of thrust, almost double that of the world's second most powerful rocket, NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) — though the latter is now fully operational. Both systems are designed to be fully reusable, a key element of SpaceX's design meant to greatly reduce costs.

Weddings blitz opens up a $51 billion opportunity for India
From accessories to match a fresh outfit for each of the four days of celebrations, to personalized gifts for hundreds of guests, her family has been out shopping every weekend since the date was finalized in August. Shreya’s ceremony in the eastern state of Jharkand is one of the 3.5 million nuptials planned between the end of November and mid December. The so-called wedding season represents a $51 billion opportunity for Indian businesses, as consumers increase spending on gold jewelry, clothing, wedding planning services and home ware. Kumar Rajagopalan, chief executive officer of the Retailers Association of India, expects an 8%-11% growth in sales across industries associated with wedding spending such as jewelry, garments, footwear and designer clothing from the end of November to January. Most Indians tie the knot between the end of the Hindu festival of Diwali and the first few months of the new year.

“The IT (Information Technology) Rules as well as the IT Act have provisions which call for the prompt removal of deep-fake content by placing them in the category of misinformation,” the official said. “Though it is expected that such technology will be used in a lighter vein to create content, platforms will have to remain extra cautious in allowing them, especially when it is related to a prominent public personality,” he added.
