Why Big Tech wants to gobble AI startups like Manus: The logic of industry consolidation

Mint Explainer: Why has Sebi tweaked the timelines for sharing market data with educators?
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has proposed a uniform 30-day lag for exchanges to share market data with trading academies and for academies to use such data in their teaching materials after receiving feedback from the industry. Two previous circulars had sparked confusion about whether these academies could use one-day-old or three-month-old market data.In a consultation paper released on Tuesday, the regulator suggested that stock exchanges provide market data for educational purposes only after a 30-day delay, and that trading academies limit their training materials to 30-day-old data.Mint explains why such time lags for sharing and using market data exist, why a delicate balance is needed, and why Sebi decided to change them now.In May 2024, Sebi restricted exchanges from sharing live market data such as prices, volumes and so on for trading and related activities, while allowing a one-day lag in the dissemination of such data for education and awareness. Then in January 2025, Sebi said educational institutions could only use three-month-old data in their teaching sessions.

IT firms are struggling to retain AI talent. TCS mulls opening doors to gig workers
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. is exploring gig-like hiring arrangements for hard-to-retain specialists in certain roles, signalling a shift as India’s $283 billion offshoring sector grapples with a talent crunch amid uncertainty caused by artificial intelligence.India’s largest information technology (IT) services company will consider allowing data architects and data scientists to log in for a few hours with the option to work elsewhere, according to a senior executive at the company, who didn’t want to be identified as the information is not yet public.“For instance, data architects do not need to work for 8 hours; their work often gets done in four hours, and then why should they not be allowed to work somewhere else? We will look at these sorts of gig options for skilled employees, and that will be the future of the workplace,” the executive said. The contours of this plan are still being finalised, and the company will have to factor in data privacy and client confidentiality concerns, the executive said.India’s software services providers mostly hire full-time employees.
