IRS loses nearly 40% of its billionaire audit team as Donald Trump and Elon Musk push for deep cuts, America’s wealthiest celebrate
Global High Wealth unit, has seen a significant 38% loss in its workforce this year. This dramatic reduction follows the Trump administration’s efforts to shrink the federal workforce, according to recent data from the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). Before these cuts, the office employed 353 people, but now it is down to just 220 employees. This decrease in staff is substantially higher than the overall loss rate at the IRS, which has impacted the unit’s ability to effectively audit the wealthiest Americans.

Donald Trump set on taking over Greenland at any cost: Here's why he is willing to threaten NATO ally Denmark for the world's biggest island
Greenland on Friday, accusing Denmark of neglecting the territory by “underinvesting” in its infrastructure and communities. The trip, which included a stop at a U.S. military base, coincided with renewed efforts by former President Donald Trump to annex Greenland—a goal he has pursued since his first term. Vance’s delegation, featuring national security adviser Mike Waltz and his wife Usha Vance, faced backlash from Greenlandic leaders, including former Prime Minister Múte Egede, who condemned “American aggression” and reaffirmed the island’s desire for independence.

LeBron James returns from 7-game injury absence, and nothing else goes right in Lakers' blowout loss
Los Angeles Lakers down the stretch toward the postseason. And then almost nothing else went right for the Lakers during a 146-115 thrashing from the Chicago Bulls. «We've got to play better basketball than we did tonight, and what we did on our last road trip,» James said before the Lakers headed out on a four-game trip beginning in Orlando on Monday. James scored 17 points after missing the Lakers' previous seven games with a strained left groin, but the top scorer in NBA history looked rusty in certain moments — particularly late in the first quarter, when he threw a long sideline inbounds pass that curled out of bounds without ever getting close to one of his teammates. But James' return was just one part of a comprehensively poor effort by the Lakers, who took their second straight loss and hit the latest trough in their peaks-and-valleys season since acquiring Luka Doncic.

Trump plans his tariff ‘Liberation Day’ with more targeted push
Donald Trump’s coming wave of tariffs is poised to be more targeted than the barrage he has occasionally threatened, aides and allies say, a potential relief for markets gripped by anxiety about an all-out tariff war. Trump is preparing a “Liberation Day” tariff announcement on April 2, unveiling so-called reciprocal tariffs he sees as retribution for tariffs and other barriers from other countries, including longtime US allies.

Is America on the brink? Legal experts warn Donald Trump’s attack on judge could push U.S toward a full-blown constitutional crisis
Trump administration and federal judges over immigration policies, funding disputes, and enforcement of court orders are pushing the U.S. toward a constitutional crisis. Recent defiance of judicial rulings—such as proceeding with deportations despite a judge’s intervention—has intensified fears about the erosion of checks and balances. Legal scholars emphasize that ignoring court mandates undermines the judiciary’s role, creating a volatile standoff between the executive branch and the rule of law.

Aizawl deputy commissioner issues directive banning Myanmar, Bangladesh refugees from acquiring Indian identity documents
The order, dated comes in response to growing concerns over a potential demographic shift in the region due to illegal immigration, particularly from Myanmar. Mizoram, sharing a 510-km porous border with Myanmar, currently hosts 33,505 Myanmar refugees, predominantly from the Chin ethnic group, alongside 2,217 from Bangladesh, as per Home Minister K Sapdanga. The influx, triggered by Myanmar’s 2021 military coup, has strained resources and sparked fears of a broader regional impact. In Manipur, former Chief Minister N Biren Singh has repeatedly blamed illegal immigration from Myanmar for fueling ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, displacing over 50,000 people since May 2023. There are around 8,000 refugees from Manipur who have taken shelter in several districts of Mizoram after the ethnic violence broke out in the neighbouring state in May 2023.

Egg prices got all the attention, but U.S restaurants are sounding the alarm on a bigger ingredient crisis that could hit menus hard; here's all about it

The Boeing Starliner Saga left Sunita Williams struggling—But now comes her toughest mission yet
NASA released images of Sunita Williams and fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore stepping back onto solid ground, something was immediately clear—this mission had taken a visible toll. Williams, 59, looked noticeably thinner, her wrists appearing fragile, her hair greyer, her face more gaunt. Medical experts say these are telltale signs of the intense physiological strain that months in space can inflict. Williams and Wilmore were originally meant to spend just eight days on the International Space Station (ISS) after launching on June 5, 2024. But technical failures with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft turned their short trip into a 286-day marathon in microgravity. When they finally splashed down off the Florida coast, the effects were undeniable.

IIT Guwahati researchers analyse Panitenga, identify bacterial strains with potential industrial applications
beneficial bacterial strains with potential industrial applications. Panitenga is a staple in Assamese cuisine, made by fermenting mustard seeds with acidic extracts from mangosteen, tamarind, or lime juice, the mixture is kneaded into a dough, wrapped in banana leaves, and left to ferment in bamboo containers for one to two weeks. This traditional preparation method not only enhances the flavour and texture but also promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria. While fermented foods are widely recognized for their probiotic benefits, such as aiding digestion and improving gut health, certain bacteria present in these foods also have the capability to produce valuable industrial chemicals or compounds. The research team at IIT Guwahati, led by Prof. Lalit Mohan Pandey, Associate Professor, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, identified Bacillus subtilis SMP-2, as a significant bacterial strain present in Panitenga. This strain has the unique ability to produce biosurfactants, which are natural compounds with diverse industrial and environmental applications. Surfactants are substances that help mix materials that do not naturally combine, such as oil and water. They are commonly used in products such as soaps, detergents, and shampoos, allowing them to remove grease and dirt. Unlike chemical surfactants, which can be harmful to the environment, biosurfactants are biodegradable, eco-friendly, and effective even under extreme conditions.

When mini liquor bottles and single cigarette sales speak, economists hear recession warning
recession are mounting as economic indicators—both traditional and unconventional—point to growing financial strain. Consumers are cutting back on discretionary spending, companies are tightening their forecasts, and market volatility is rising, all while U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade policies continue to rattle investor confidence. Economists define a recession as a “significant decline in economic activity” lasting more than a few months, often marked by a drop in GDP, rising unemployment, and weaker industrial production. While some analysts maintain that the economy remains stable for now, Goldman Sachs recently raised the probability of a recession this year to 20%.
