How you can blend investment styles with mutual funds
A retired professor, 86, shows it's never too late to benefit from mutual fundsBut the risk is that if the earnings growth of a company disappoints even slightly, there can be a sharp correction in its stock because the P/E multiples of such companies tend to be on the higher side due to estimates of higher earnings growth. Franklin India Flexi Cap Fund, ICICI Prudential Flexicap Fund and Parag Parikh Flexi Cap are some examples of value-oriented flexicap funds. The risk with value style is that there can be long periods of underperformance when the markets favour growth companies.

Filmmakers launch merchandise, spin-offs of tentpole movies for enduring income
Kalki 2898 AD titled B&B: Bujji and Bhairava started streaming on Amazon Prime Video in the run-up to the film’s theatrical release. While these are undoubtedly seen as ways to create IPs (intellectual properties) that can sustain beyond the individual film, industry experts point out that this is an unchartered territory for India and would need significant work to become sustainable.

Expert view: Market multiples may see a de-rating over next 12 months, says Nitin Bhasin of Ambit
Nitin Bhasin, the head of institutional equities at Ambit, says negative earnings surprises have increased over the last two quarters, which may continue, leading to a potential de-rating of market multiples over the next 12 months. He believes the current financial year (FY25) may be a year of earnings normalisation, and small and mid-caps, trading at near all-time high valuations, will likely benefit from a bottom-up approach.

Four key employment focused strategies for services-led economic development
The future of developing countries is in services. This may sound odd in view of the fact that industrialization has been the traditional road to growth and eventual prosperity, one travelled by all of today’s rich economies and by more recent successes such as South Korea, Taiwan and China. Manufacturing seems even more essential given that industrial policies to revive it are back in fashion in the US and Europe.

Afghanistan beat Bangladesh to qualify for T20 World Cup Semi-finals, Australia out
AFG vs Ban T20 World Cup: In a setback to Australia, Afghanistan qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 world cup by beating Bangladesh. In the crucial Super Eights T20 World Cup match against Afghanistan, Bangladesh lost by 8 runs while chasing a target of 116 before rain halted play. Bangladesh's run chase was hit by an early setback as Afghan pacers Naveen Ul Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi dismissed the top three Bangladesh batsmen at 31/3 in 3.3 overs. Earlier, Bangladesh's bowlers held Afghanistan to 115/5. Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain spearheaded the Bangladeshi bowling attack with impressive figures of three for 26. The Afghan top order struggled to gain momentum, unable to effectively counter Bangladesh's varied bowling strategies after opting to bat first. Despite a promising opening partnership of 59 runs in 10.4 overs, Afghanistan's progress stalled. Rahmanullah Gurbaz top-scored with 43 runs off 55 balls, reflecting the team's difficulty in accelerating the scoring rate.

Unfortunately for everyone in the industry, it takes an awful lot more work to recover a damaged franchise than it does to keep a functioning company going. So when a financial firm gets into as much trouble as Janus Henderson did after what was famously one of the worst mergers in fund management history, there were bound to be some blood sweat and tears involved for Ali Dibadj the CEO who was brought in two years ago to try to turn things around.

This year too, the momentum is going to continue,» Virat Diwanji, group president and head — consumer bank, told Reuters in an email interview on Monday.

Tips to save money when you have a low income
When income is low, the ability to save is also limited. For savers like Nitin, tax-saving instruments under Section 80C may be the primary way to accumulate savings. However, trying to save about 20% of his income is an ambitious target for a young earner with a family to support. It’s common for young investors with low incomes to find that expenses quickly consume their earnings. Nitin should first evaluate whether he can routinely save 20% of his income each month to determine if this annual saving target is feasible. If, after accounting for lifestyle and other avoidable expenses, mandatory expenses for rent, power, transport, telecom, and similar necessities exceed 80% of his income, his 20% saving target is too high. He should be prepared to pay some taxes until his income and saving ability increase.
