Assam CM Sarma says won't let Miya Muslims take over the state
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the state assembly that he would not let Miya Muslims (Bengali-speaking Muslims) take over the state, triggering protests from the Congress which staged a walkout. These remarks come at a time when several organisations in Upper Assam have threated Muslims to leave the region following the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old girl by three persons in Assam's Nagaon district. Speaking in the assembly on the Opposition's adjournment motion on several key issues, including rape of minors and the targeting of Muslims in Upper Assam's Sivasagar district, Sarma said, «I will take sides. What can you do? Will not let Miya Muslims take over Assam...Let them (the Opposition) compete for minority votes. I am not in the competition.» Harping on Opposition leaders Rafikul Sahab and Debabrata Saikia stating that Miya Muslims will move from Lower Assam, where they are present in significant numbers, to Upper Assam, Sarma said: «They have made an important statement… You Miya Muslims will take the entire lower Assam? We will not let you all take Upper Assam, not ever.»

Chinese hacker group exploits startup bug to target US, Indian companies
Volt Typhoon is exploiting a bug in a California-based startup to hack American and Indian internet companies, according to security researchers. Volt Typhoon has breached four US firms, including internet service providers, and another in India through a vulnerability in a Versa Networks server product, according to Lumen Technologies Inc's unit Black Lotus Labs. Their assessment, much of which was published in a blog post Tuesday, found with «moderate confidence» that Volt Typhoon was behind the breaches of unpatched Versa systems and said exploitation was likely ongoing. Versa, which makes software that manages network configurations and has attracted investment from Blackrock Inc and Sequoia Capital, announced the bug last week and offered a patch and other mitigations.

Can this real estate stock be a potential 10-bagger?
technical analysis, I often seek stock insights from my technical analyst friends. I like to know which stocks they’re bullish on and then apply my fundamental filters to them. Recently, one of my technical analyst friends expressed strong bullish sentiments about Shriram Properties, going so far as to predict it could become a potential 10-bagger.

Fighting food inflation isn’t a challenge for a single fighter
Recently released Consumer Price Index-Combined (CPI-C) data shows that food inflation, driven by pulses, vegetables and cereals, is outpacing general CPI inflation. While the latter is 3.54%, food inflation is significantly higher at 5.06%. The relationship between retail and food inflation has been a matter of considerable debate, especially in light of the 2024 Economic Survey’s suggestion that food inflation should no longer be included in the inflation target, since it is largely supply driven.

When it comes to SIP, look at the gross inflows, not net, says AMFI's Venkat Nageswar Chalasani
Venkat Nageswar Chalasani, Chief Executive, AMFI, says 9.34 crore is the total number of accounts and Rs 24,000 crore is the total amount that has been raised in this particular month. If you derive that number, 24,000 divided by 9.33, it will be around Rs 2,500. So, it is just a mix. Some people are investing around Rs 1,00,000 and some people would be putting around Rs 500 to Rs 600 per month. The average, as I said, is derived and works out to around Rs 2,500. But this number is also growing. One year back, it was around Rs 2,200, today it is Rs 2,500. My sincere compliments for all the great work which the Association of Mutual Funds of India (AMFI) is doing. Venkat Nageswar Chalasani: Thank you very much. Retail investors are coming into the mutual fund fold. In fact, on the SIP front, there are around 9.33 crore accounts as we speak now. The AUM under SIP is around Rs 13 lakh crore, around 20% of my total AUM.
