NEW DELHI : The Union government is set to roll out a new scheme to boost rooftop solar installations, the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday. Taking to X platform, the prime minister said that under the scheme 10 million households would get rooftop solar installations. “Today, on the auspicious occasion of the consecration of life in Ayodhya, my resolve has been further strengthened that the people of India should have their own solar roof top system on the roof of their houses.

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is getting closer to its target of producing green hydrogen for $1-1.5 per kilogramme on the back of multiple product-linked incentives (PLIs) it has won in the green energy segment, an analyst report said. «These incentives are likely to assist RIL achieve GH2 (green hydrogen) cost of $1-1.5/kg,» Nuvama Research said in a report dated January 20. The cost of GH2 is around $3/kg at present. The country's largest private sector company has secured sops under both rounds of solar modules PLIs — $300 million for 4 gigawatt (GW) in round one and $400 million for 6 GW in round two.

The government will allocate more should the demand exceed its initial expectation under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), which is a demand-driven programme. The rural development ministry, in the pre-budget consultations, had sought ₹1.1 lakh crore for FY25, expecting higher demand for work and wage hikes. As for the current fiscal, the government has approved an additional ₹14,524 crore, over and above the budgeted ₹60,000 crore, as part of its first batch of supplementary demands for grants with an indication that more funds could be granted if required. The government had spent about ₹90,000 crore under the scheme in FY23.
