IT sector outlook: Sell into the FOMO rally, says Nirmal Bang, cuts FY25 revenue estimates of IT stocks under coverage
Nirmal Bang remains cautious about the IT sector as it emphasises investors use the market rally to pare positions in IT stocks if overweight, especially in the tier-2 set. The brokerage firm has cut the FY25 revenue estimates for almost all its coverage as it expects a shallow US recession in 2024. "We advocate that investors use the ‘delayed/no landing’ rally seen since October 2022 to pare positions if overweight, especially in the tier-2 set," Nirmal Bang said in a note on September 26.

India to fix biggest subsidy schemes - food & LPG - that cost Rs 4 lk cr a year
NITI Aayog will soon undertake the evaluation of India’s biggest subsidy schemes, the National Food Security Act and LPG subsidy, to rationalise expenditure, prevent leakage and ensure benefits are reaching the eligible candidates. The Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office, which is an attached office of NITI Aayog, has invited proposals for a central coordinating agency for evaluation of the two schemes, which together cost the exchequer nearly Rs 4,00,000 crore a year. “The government implements one the largest public food and nutritional safety nets in the world through the National Food Security Act (NFSA), enacted in 2013. However, despite the large public expenditure, gains in the food security and nutritional outcomes in India have been slow with the country accounting for roughly 30% of the global burden of hunger,” the DMEO said in the RFP document. Explaining the rationale behind evaluation of the LPG subsidy, the DMEO further said that India is the third largest energy consumer in the world after China and the USA. “The current consumption of LPG in India has risen to 12.3% of total petroleum products compared to 1.13% of kerosene.

Bengaluru Bandh against Cauvery water release to Tamil Nadu evokes partial response
Bengaluru bandh called by various organisations over the Cauvery river water dispute evoked partial response on Tuesday with most of the public services functioning normally. Farmers and Kannada organisations, backed by the opposition BJP and JD(S) had made the call for shutdown in protest against the release of Cauvery water to neighbouring Tamil Nadu. Normal life was affected in the city as fewer people ventured out. 'Karnataka Jala Samrakshana Samiti,' an umbrella outfit of farmers' associations and other organisations led by farmer leader Kuruburu Shanthakumar, has given the call for today's dawn-to-dusk (6 am to 6 pm) Bengaluru bandh. Shanthakumar and other leaders of the 'Karnataka Jala Samrakshana Samiti were detained by the police at the Mysuru Bank circle, as they were trying to hold a protest march towards Town Hall. Several activists of Kannada organisations were also whisked away by the police at Town Hall, as they gathered there to stage a protest. Farmers' leaders and Kannada activists hit out at the government for allegedly using police force to curtail the protests and bandh. City police have taken adequate security measures to respond to any violence that may happen during the protests.
