New Delhi: Pharmaceutical companies may have to switch to transparent bottles for eye drops so that consumers can ascertain the clarity of eye drops before using them, said people aware of the matter. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has called a meeting with pharma lobby groups on Monday to discuss the matter as the regulatory authority proposes to make amendments to the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 with respect to the packaging of eye drops, they said. The Drugs Consultative Committee (DCC), a technical body of experts, had deliberated on the issue in its meeting last year after it received representation to amend the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 with respect to concerns raised on the packing of eye drops in opaque plastic vials or bottles by pharmaceutical companies on the basis of historical testing results of eye drops sampling. The tests showed that most of the samples failed in the description due to particulate matter and contamination.

NEW DELHI : Chipmaker Qualcomm Technologies has entered into a partnership with government-backed Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) to support India-based developers and startups working on innovative products and use cases. The pact, signed at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, will support C-DOT with expertise and best practices, state-of-the-art technology, intellectual property training and tools, according to a release.

Nifty on Friday ended the first trading session of the March series 366 points higher above the 22,300 mark and at fresh record highs. The index formed a bullish Marubozu candle on the charts. “The index broke out of a two-month consolidation zone and such volatility contraction is usually followed by a strong rally. The 61.8% Fibonacci projection level from the start of Nifty’s rally since October is at 23,200. If the breakout is sustained a quick march towards 23,000 can be expected. The demand zone has now shifted upwards to 22,200-22,250 which is expected to act as support for Nifty,” Sheersham Gupta, Director and Senior Technical Analyst at Rupeezy, said.

India has conducted two successful flight tests of a very short-range air defence missile off the coast of Odisha. The tests were carried out on Wednesday and Thursday. «The DRDO conducted two successful flight tests of Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles on February 28 and 29 from a ground-based portable launcher off the coast of Odisha from integrated test range, Chandipur,» the defence ministry said. It said the tests were carried out against high-speed unmanned aerial targets under different interception scenarios. «During all the test flights, the targets were intercepted and destroyed by the missiles, meeting the mission objectives,» the ministry said.

Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, arrested in a money laundering case, but permitted him to undergo cancer treatment at a hospital of his choice for two months. Goyal (74), who is lodged in Arthur Road jail in central Mumbai, had sought to be released on interim bail to undergo treatment for cancer. Special judge for cases under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) M G Deshpande permitted Goyal to undergo treatment for the illness at Tata hospital or any other hospital of his choice for a period of two months. Last month, Goyal was permitted by the court to undergo tests at a private hospital here. On February 15, Goyal filed an application seeking interim bail on medical grounds as the tests revealed malignancy. The application said Goyal has to undergo some scans to determine the stage of the malignancy, based on which doctors will be able to determine the line of treatment, including surgery and chemotherapy. The doctors have advised an aggressive and immediate line of treatment to arrest any fatal issues that could arise in the applicant's case, the plea added.

Tata Electronics’ proposal to set up a semiconductor chip fabrication unit in India, making it the country’s first pure-play foundry. The Rs 91,000-crore project will be set up in Gujarat’s Dholera district in partnership with Taiwanese Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC), Union communications and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a press briefing on Thursday.

DGCA has mandated that at least 25 per cent of the air traffic controllers, aircraft maintenance engineers, and personnel carrying out safety-sensitive work at an airport will have to undergo a breath analyser test daily. The revised Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) in this regard will come into force after three months, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a release on Thursday. Currently, the breath analyser test percentage required is 10 per cent and that has been increased to 25 per cent. It will be applicable for air traffic controllers, ground staff, aircraft maintenance engineers, and ground handling services personnel right.
