ISRO's SSLV, private players Skyroot, Agnikul eye share in small satellite business
ISRO's latest satellite launch vehicle ' SSLV' is the first rocket in its category to be ready for commercialisation with two others, 'Vikram' from Skyroot and 'Agnibaan' from Agnikul Cosmos, expected to vie for market share to place small satellites in orbit. According to industry estimates, the satellite launch market in India is expected to grow from USD 720 million in 2022 to USD 3.5 billion by 2033 and small satellites are likely to be the most preferred modes for a number of applications ranging from providing internet connectivity to earth observation. Space start-ups such as Pixxel and Satsure have already announced plans to have constellations of small satellites for the range of services they plan to offer and Indian launch vehicles will vie to be the preferred rockets to place these satellites in orbit. «Larger launch vehicles are there, but with a large number of satellites being launched, companies do not want to wait, they want to launch a satellite as soon as they can and small vehicles are tailor made for them,» Lt Gen A K Bhatt (retd), Director General of Indian Space Association, told PTI.

Canadian Olympian Eric Lamaze owes nearly $800K following latest court ruling
Eric Lamaze owed the plaintiffs more than $786,000.The case lasted 15 years and Lamaze had argued he couldn’t take part because he had terminal cancer – but another judge in the same case ruled the evidence Lamaze submitted to prove he was receiving treatment wasn’t “credible or reliable.”“I’ve carried the weight of this on my shoulders,” Karina Frederiks, the daughter of the plaintiffs, said while growing emotional, minutes after the Aug. 8 ruling. Her family’s stable, Iron Horse Farm, sued Lamaze in 2010, initially claiming he sold them three horses for show jumping who couldn’t perform as promised before narrowing the case down to two horses in question.Lamaze denied any wrongdoing in his defence statement. An Ontario judge ruled in the stable’s favour, noting Lamaze failed to appear in final proceedings. The lawsuit was one of many involving the Olympic equestrian gold medallist.

How on Earth did Nasa leave two astronauts in space?
On a video chat in early June from the International Space Station, Sunita Williams talked to a packed elementary-school gym in her Massachusetts hometown about how it feels to ride a rocket into space (like a roller coaster) and what life is like hundreds miles above the planet. “Being in space is a lot of fun," the 58-year-old astronaut said as her hair floated loosely in a dark halo around her head. She demonstrated a few flips, sipped tropical punch from a pouch and opened up about how people pass the time in the microgravity environment of Earth’s orbit.

ALS stole his voice, AI retrieved it
By then, ALS had begun laying waste to Harrell's muscles, stealing from him one ritual after another: going on walks with his wife, holding his daughter, turning the pages of a book. «Like a night burglar,» his wife, Levana Saxon, wrote of the disease in a poem. But no theft was as devastating to Harrell, 46, as the fading of his speech. He had sung his last Whitney Houston song at karaoke. A climate activist, he had delivered his last unassisted Zoom presentation to fellow organizers.

Ricky Ponting thinks this English batsman could surpass Sachin Tendulkar as Test cricket's highest run-scorer
Ricky Ponting reckoned that Joe Root could surpass batting legend Sachin Tendulkar's tally of runs in Test cricket, provided the England batting mainstay stays 'hungry' and keeps scoring at a consistent rate for the next four years. Root became only the seventh batter in the history of the conventional format to cross the 12,000-run mark — a feat he achieved recently during the Edgbaston Test against the West Indies. With 12,027 runs in 143 Tests at 50.11 with 32 centuries and 63 fifties so far, Root is also overall the seventh highest run-scorer in Tests and could overtake Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara (12,400 runs) and his former teammate Alastair Cook (12,472) soon. Tendulkar leads the table with 15921 runs from 200 Tests.
