US lawsuit against TikTok to focus on childrens' privacy
U.S. Department of Justice plans to focus an upcoming lawsuit against TikTok on allegations that the popular social media platform violated the privacy rights of children, rather than claims it misled adult users about its data privacy practices, according to a source familiar with the matter. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission investigated the potential violations by TikTok and its parent company ByteDance and referred the case to the Justice Department on Tuesday.

Dating apps once ran on novelty. For some users, the fun is over.
As online-dating apps court new and younger audiences, some of their marketing efforts are turning off daters instead. Bumble last month apologized for ads making light of women so frustrated with online dating that they would consider celibacy. The League, a dating app targeting “the overly ambitious," was called “ick-inducing" for its recent ad campaign, which included taglines like “Date someone with a 5-year-plan that makes you want to ovulate." And Hinge’s yearslong “Designed to Be Deleted" campaign has started to fall flat for longtime users still looking for love on their phones.

garlic to get relief from acne has gone viral on TikTok, reports 'USA Today'. The netizens have taken it seriously and thousands of people have started eating garlic cloves, without consulting a doctor. Though garlic is healthy, dermatologists have warned that they have no evidence to suggest that it can help with acne. They have advised these netizens to consult a dermatologist instead and make improvements to their health and diet overall. Talking to the news outlet, dermatologist Dr. Brooke Jeffy said that eating garlic can't hurt anyone, other than giving some really bad breath. He said further that there are many tried-and-true ways to treat acne. He further said that some good nutritional dietary things are rooted in science that do not apply to this garlic trend.

TikTok preparing a US copy of the app's core algorithm
TikTok is working on a clone of its recommendation algorithm for its 170 million U.S. users that may result in a version that operates independently of its Chinese parent and be more palatable to American lawmakers who want to ban it, according to sources with direct knowledge of the efforts. The work on splitting the source code ordered by TikTok's Chinese parent ByteDance late last year predated a bill to force a sale of TikTok's U.S. operations that began gaining steam in Congress this year. The bill was signed into law in April.
