Kamala Harris’s concession call to Donald Trump was awkward; here’s what they said to each other
2024 election was over, the then vice president Kamala Harris made the tough phone call to president-elect Donald Trump to concede the election. As expected, the call was tense and awkward, but new information from Chris Whipple's upcoming new book 'Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History', highlighted just how uncomfortable the conversation actually was, as per a report. The call was arranged from her Naval Observatory residence in Washington D.C., with her campaign Chief of Staff Sheila Nix and White House Chief of Staff Lorraine Voles, reported Daily Mail. According to Whipple's book, «Nix called the president-elect on her cell phone — but for some reason couldn't merge the call with the vice president's phone. So Voles called Harris on hers — and she and Nix pressed the phones together,» quoted Daily Mail. After Trump picked up the call, Voles told Trump that, «The vice president is on the line,» as quoted in the report.

Once-in-a-lifetime cosmic event: Blaze star to explode in a dazzling display visible to the naked eye from Earth despite being 3,000 lightyears away
The Blaze Star, also known as T Coronae Borealis, is expected to shine as brightly as Polaris for about a week, starting soon. Astronomers describe it as a «once-in-a-lifetime» sky show, best seen near the Corona Borealis constellation. Only once every 80 years does T Coronae Borealis explode, making it a new star in the night sky for about a week. Bradley Schaefer, an astronomer and Blaze Star expert at Louisiana State University told Annie Jennemann of Hearst, «We anticipate that T Coronae Borealis will erupt any night now, any month now,” as quoted in a report by The NY Post. A meditative metamorphosis
Bikaner House on a late spring evening, ‘The Quiet Interlude’ came into its own. Reflective canvases beckoned, time expanded and contracted, and the solitary viewer got drawn into the Yantra and Tantra, the yin and yang, and the madhya point of stillness so central to Trishla Jain’s artistic endeavour. ORDER IN CHAOS Jain’s initial works were colourful expressions of playful whimsy, but her latest canvases reveal a confident maturity, a meditative metamorphosis — a conscious progression to seeking deeper meanings. Which is why the period of calm, the emptiness before the formal opening of Jain’s exhibition was so central to understanding the language of her compositions, from the comforting structured grid patterns of Yantra to the unbound, infinitive universe of Tantra.

He said 521 Naxalites have surrendered so far this year, while 881 Naxalites surrendered in 2024. «Shah expressed confidence that those Naxalites who lay down their arms will be able to join the mainstream and progress, but those who choose the path of violence by picking up weapons will be dealt with strictly by the security forces,» said an official statement. As infertility rates rise, India Inc rolls out family-planning benefits
Companies like Google, Accenture, Diageo, Myntra, IKEA, and L’Oréal are including fertility treatments like IVF under insurance, offering emotional support through employee assistance programmes, organising seminars to drive awareness on infertility and available support systems. Egg and sperm freezing, too, are being added to medical insurance programmes for employees looking to delay their parenthood journey for career or personal reasons. India has a population of as many as 27.5 million infertile people, including men and women, according to the Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction. However, organisations are stepping up to drive the change. In November last year, Google India expanded its family building benefits in India, increasing reimbursements for expenses related to fertility treatments — including options like fertility preservation, IUI, and IVF.

Why have billions been wiped out from banks worldwide despite Donald Trump's tariffs not hitting them directly? Here's the reason, and why a recession could be looming
Why are bank stocks crashing globally even though Trump’s tariffs don’t target them?- If you've been keeping an eye on the stock market, you probably noticed a wild swing recently—especially in the banking sector. Billions of dollars have vanished from global banks, and the confusion is real. You might be asking: Wait, aren’t Trump’s tariffs aimed at goods? Why are banks bleeding? That’s the heart of the issue. While President Donald Trump’s new tariff walls—reportedly the toughest in a century—don’t hit banks directly, the ripple effects are enough to spook the financial world. And the selloff we’re seeing now? It’s not just a blip. It could be the early signs of something much bigger, potentially tipping the global economy toward a 2025 recession.

Trump promised a manufacturing boom. Industries are not so sure
Trump has vowed his historic tariff blitz would revive domestic manufacturing, but industry worries about his approach are raising fresh doubts about whether he can deliver on his promise of an economic boom. In the Rose Garden on Wednesday, Trump declared “jobs and factories will come roaring back into our country” and predicted new “golden age” in America. Since then, he has stood by his decision to hike US tariffs to their highest levels in more than a century, even as the move sparked a global market meltdown. Some manufacturing advocates and economists questioned Trump’s underlying logic, saying supply chain issues, high costs, workforce needs and the laborious process of moving production to the US stand in the way. Continued uncertainty about Trump’s long-term policy could also have a chilling effect, they said. If the tariffs aren’t enough to convince companies to move operations to the US, it could mean Americans bear the heavy burden of the economic havoc Trump’s announcement unleashed without the promise of future benefits. That could heighten political risks for Trump and his fellow Republicans. “While we certainly agree we should aggressively pursue any policy that helps us make things in America, the idea that you can move every part of the manufacturing process back to the US does not align with reality,” said Kip Eideberg, senior vice president for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

IPL 2025: DC continue unbeaten run after beating CSK by 25 runs
Delhi Capitals won against Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk for the first time since 2010. The visitors registered a comfortable 25-run win after posting 183/6 in 20 overs. Opting to bat first, DC were led by KL Rahul's 77 runs off 51 balls, which included six fours and three sixes. He was supported by Abhishek Porel, who scored 33 runs off 20 balls, while Tristan Stubbs gave the finishing touches with an unbeaten 24 off 12 balls. For CSK, Khaleel Ahmed picked up two wickets and was excellent with the new ball. Matheesh Pathirana bowled a superb spell in the death to restrict DC under 200. The home team never looked to be in the chase as they were reduced to 41/3 inside the powerplay. Vijay Shankar scored an unbeaten 69 runs but his runs came off 54 balls, which proved to be too slow in the end. MS Dhoni scored 30 not out off 26 balls as CSK did not show any intent to win the match after losing a few wickets upfront. DC now have three wins in as many matches and top the table, while CSK find themselves in a spot of bother with just one win in four matches, placing them eighth among the 10 teams.

Raj Thackeray asks MNS workers to "halt" Marathi language agitation, urges government to uphold the law
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday asked his party workers to halt the agitation demanding mandatory use of the Marathi language in banks and other establishments across the state, as per an official statement from MNS. In a letter to the party worker, Thackeray said, «It's time to halt the agitation as we've raised sufficient awareness about the issue. It's up to the Marathi community to insist on their rights. If our community doesn't take action, then what's the point of these agitations?» He expressed hope that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's lead Maharashtra government will follow the law regarding the use of the Marathi language in all establishments across the state. «I have seen a statement of the Chief Minister in which he has said that no one will be allowed to take the law in their hands. We are also not interested in taking the law into our hands but it is the responsibility of the government to follow the law. I expect the government to follow the law regarding the use of Marathi language in all establishments across Maharashtra,» Thackeray said in the letter. Thackeray urged his workers to pause the agitation but remain focused on the issue.

From Rs 65 LPA to Rs 2.4 LPA: In divorce case, High Court questions techie's sudden drop in salary
Bombay High Court recently imposed a Rs 1 lakh fine on a man for deliberately avoiding maintenance payments to his wife and minor daughter. The fine must be paid to the wife within four weeks. The case involved a techie who claimed he could not afford to pay Rs 30,000 per month in maintenance, as ordered by a civil court. However, the court found that he was earning Rs 65 lakh per year—about Rs 5.5 lakh per month—when he took the job in August 2021. Just four days after joining, he claimed that he met with an accident and went on medical leave for two months. He later resigned in February 2022 and took up a lower-paying job with a salary of Rs 20,000 per month. Despite this claim, Justice Madhav Jamdar noted several inconsistencies. The man failed to mention the accident in his earlier court filings and only referred to it in a February 2024 reply to a contempt petition. The judge also pointed out that the husband continued to list his income as Rs 35–50 lakh on matrimonial websites until November 2023, suggesting he was hiding his true financial situation. The court further observed that between February 2021 and January 2022, the man transferred Rs 34 lakh to his mother and brother, likely to shield his assets. Justice Jamdar concluded that the husband made a “systematic attempt” to make any maintenance order unenforceable.

Gen Z’s impatience for trends, demand for constant newness reshaping fashion industry: Thimblerr cofounder Piyush Jalan
Piyush Jalan, cofounder of Thimblerr, said that Gen Z’s impatience for trends and demand for constant newness is reshaping the fashion industry in India. This shift is triggering a supply chain revolution. As a result, traditional seasonal cycles are dead and brands are now launching 12 to 24 micro-collections a year to keep up. “The frequency of purchase among Gen Z is very high, and their patience for waiting six months to see international trends reach India has completely disappeared. They want what’s trending globally—right now. This is pushing brands to launch products faster and offer a wider variety tailored to Gen Z’s preferences.” Jalan said.

Nissan considers transferring some domestic production to US, Nikkei says
Donald Trump ramps up trade tariffs on nations worldwide. As early as this summer, Nissan plans to reduce production at its Fukuoka factory in western Japan and shift some manufacturing of its Rogue SUV to the United States to mitigate the impact of Trump's tariffs, the business newspaper said, without citing the source of its information. The Japanese automaker's Rogue SUV, a key model in the U.S. market, is now produced in Fukuoka and the United States, the report said. On Thursday, Nissan said it would not take new orders from the U.S. for two Mexican-built Infiniti SUVs after earlier Trump tariff announcements, marking, a drastic scale-back of its operations at a joint venture plant. The automaker now plans to maintain two shifts of production of the Rogue at its Smyrna, Tennessee, plant after announcing in January it would end one of the two shifts this month.
