₹1.8 crore a year and still in debt? Bengaluru engineer’s viral budget sparks outrage
Posting on LinkedIn, a user identified as Aas Vora Jain described how, even with a take-home pay of ₹8.3 lakh a month, he ends up in a monthly deficit of ₹57,000. His claim instantly set off a flurry of reactions across social media, with some sympathising and many more ridiculing what they saw as an exaggerated account of luxury gone wrong. “I make ₹1.8 crore per year in Bangalore as a principal software engineer, and it's utterly unlivable,” Jain wrote. “Let's break it down. After taxes, my take-home is approximately ₹1 crore or ₹8.3 lakh/month.”

New Zealand sweep series against Pakistan as Sears, Bracewell set up 43-run triumph in 3rd ODI
Ben Sears's second five-wicket haul on the trot inspired New Zealand to whitewash Pakistan with a 3-0 ODI series triumph, following their 43-run success in the third and final clash of the series at Bay Oval on Saturday. In a 42-over-reduced game due to a wet outfield, Pakistan's pursuit of a 265-run target began with Imam-ul-Haq retiring hurt after taking a bouncer from William O'Rourke on his helmet. He instantly removed his helmet, holding his jaw. After a brief halt, he was eventually taken off the field, and Pakistan's premier batter, Babar Azam, arrived at the crease to carry the fight for his side. A 69-run partnership brewed between Babar and Abdullah Shafique as the duo flaunted their textbook strokeplay. Babar danced around the track to dispatch Michael Bracewell's flighted delivery past the boundary rope for a maximum. Sears, who effectively used the short ball ploy, broke the threatening partnership. Shafique (33) swivelled his hook without any timing straight down to Jacob Duffy. The floodgates opened, and Pakistan started losing scalps at regular intervals. Babar's 50 kept Pakistan's hopes high, but Daryl Mitchell set him up perfectly to scythe his scalp. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan (37) and Tayyab Tahir (33) resisted but gave away their wickets to Duffy. Sears cleaned up the middle and tail-end to force Pakistan to pack on 221, surrendering to a 43-run defeat.

Lucknow Super Giants' Justin Langer answers reporter's mom's call at 12:08 AM—And it's hilarious!
Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer had the press room in splits after he unexpectedly answered a phone call during the post-match press conference, moments after his team’s 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians in the IPL. While responding to a question about injured pacer Mayank Yadav, Langer noticed a reporter's phone buzzing on the podium with “Mom” flashing on the screen. «Who's Maa?» he asked with a grin, then got the reporter’s nod before picking up the call. “Mom, it’s 12:08 AM, I’m at a press conference,” he said, triggering laughter across the room. Langer was clearly in a cheerful mood after LSG successfully defended 204 by restricting MI to 191/5 — a strong comeback after their previous defeat, and their second win in four matches.

Senate GOP approves framework for Trump's tax breaks and spending cuts after all-night session
Senate Republicans plugged away overnight and into early Saturday morning to approve their multitrillion-dollar tax breaks and spending cuts framework, hurling past a hard line of Democratic opposition toward what President Donald Trump calls the «big, beautiful bill» that's central to his agenda. The vote, 51-48, fell along mostly party lines. It could not have come at a more difficult political moment. The U.S. economy is churning after Trump's vast tariff scheme sent stocks plummeting, and experts are warning of soaring costs for consumers at home and threats of a potential recession. Even some Republicans have expressed concerns. But with a nod from Trump GOP leaders held determined to march ahead. Approval paves the way for Republicans, in the months ahead, to try to power a tax cut bill through both chambers of Congress over the objections of Democrats, just as they did in Trump's first term with unified party control in Washington. «Let the voting begin,» Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said Friday night. The evening kicked off what's called vote-a-rama as Democrats were intent on making the effort as politically painful as possible, with votes on some two dozen amendments to the package that GOP senators will have to defend before next year's midterm elections.

Moana Pasifika come from behind to rout NSW Waratahs in Super Rugby showdown
The team, comprising of players of Pasifika heritage, have been dominant in the second half of their matches this season, scoring nearly 63% of their total points. The victory over Waratahs is Moana Pasifika’s first back-to-back wins since joining Super Rugby Pacific in 2022. The Waratahs remain winless away from home this season. Moana Pasifika captain Ardie Savea, an All Black player, expressed his pride in his team's resilience and highlighted the impact of their bench players. The team's focus on fundamental skills like set pieces, carrying, and cleaning contributed to their second-half dominance, he pointed out. The two halves of the match had dramatically different outcomes. The Waratahs capitalized on early Moana Pasifika errors, scoring tries through winger Triston Reilly (twice) and Andrew Kellaway. Teddy Wilson also contributed to the Waratahs' first-half lead. A wayward Moana Pasifika lineout throw provided the opportunity for Wilson's initial contribution, leading to Reilly's first try. A missed quick tap penalty inside the Waratahs' 10m further hampered Moana Pasifika. Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii's strong run set up Reilly’s second try. Feleti Sae Ta’ufo’ou scored Moana Pasifika’s first try.

Notices issued against 24 people for protesting against Waqf Bill by wearing black badges in UP's Muzaffarnagar
The notices were issued by City Magistrate Vikas Kashyap on the police report, asking them to furnish bonds of Rs two lakh each after appearing before the court on April 16. These people were found protesting against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and wearing black badges on their arms during last Friday prayers of Ramzan in different mosques here on March 28. The people who got notices issued against them said they wore black badges only to show protest in a democratic way. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju tabled the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, asserting that the legislation is not against Muslims or intended to hurt their religious feelings, but seeks to improve the functioning of Waqf properties, address complexities, ensure transparency and introduce technology-driven management. The Lok Sabha passed the Bill by a 288-232 vote in the early hours of Thursday, after nearly 12 hours of debate, and the Rajya Sabha gave its nod to the legislation following an over 13-hour debate.

Japanese Grand Prix: Jack Doohan crashes, McLaren's Oscar Piastri takes top spot in second practice session
Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka were disrupted by multiple red flags due to crashes and track fires, with McLaren driver Oscar Piastri clocking the fastest time to emerge at the top. Alpine team's Jack Doohan was involved in a crash which led to a brief stoppage in the practice session. New Zealand's Liam Lawson, recently demoted to Racing Bulls, outperformed Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda, who had replaced him. Alpine driver Jack Doohan crashed at the 160mph at the first corner during the second practice session after failing to deactivate his DRS. Team principal Oliver Oakes attributed the incident to «a misjudgement» and a «something to learn from.» The crash caused significant damage to Doohan's car but he escaped without any injuries. “It was a heavy one, something that caught me by surprise, and I will learn from it. I know the team has a lot of work ahead to repair the car,” said the Formula One driver after checking with his team. The DRS issue arose because Doohan lifted off the throttle but didn’t brake, causing the DRS to remain open. This reduced downforce, leading to the spin and subsequent crash. Doohan was participating in only his fourth F1 race, and his car had been driven by reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa in the first practice session.

LSG Captain Rishabh Pant, bowler Digvesh Singh fined for Code of Conduct breach during match against Mumbai Indians
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant and bowler Digvesh Singh have both been penalised following LSG’s IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Pant has been fined INR 12 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate during the match, marking his first offence under the IPL’s Code of Conduct. According to Article 2.22 of the Code, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, captains are held responsible when their teams fail to bowl their allotted overs within the prescribed time limit. Additionally, Digvesh Singh has been fined 50% of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. This fine follows his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season. Singh had previously accumulated one demerit point in LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 1, 2025, bringing his total to two demerit points after this latest breach. For both players, the decisions made by the Match Referee are final and binding as per IPL regulations.

Trump tariff hunt eyes India's last stock market refuge but it won't be an easy kill
Donald Trump’s tariff tantrums on April 2, are now nursing their wounds. The Nifty Pharma index tumbled 4% on Friday, slamming the brakes on a relief rally that lasted less than 24 hours. Investors who had rushed into stocks like Laurus Labs, Aurobindo Pharma, Lupin, Biocon, Gland Pharma and Cipla watched them fall between 5% and 7% in a single session. The shock came courtesy of Trump’s chilling declaration: Pharma tariffs are “going to be starting to come in… at a level that you haven't really seen before.” The announcement, he said, is “under review right now” and will be made “in the near future.”

New York State appellate judges. A 74-year-old entrepreneur without legal training, he was there to contest a ruling in his employment case. But the real twist wasn’t in the lawsuit. It came when the video he submitted began playing in court. A young, clean-cut man appeared on the courtroom screen. “May it please the court,” the digital figure began. “I come here today a humble pro se before a panel of five distinguished justices.” It took just seconds for Justice Sallie Manzanet-Daniels to interrupt. “Ok, hold on. Is that counsel for the case?” “No,” Dewald replied from his seat. “I generated that. That’s not a real person.”
