Do what you know best, rest will take care of itself
social media generation. It came into existence during my coaching career. For me to identify and understand this is difficult at times. However, for athletes of this generation, who have grown up immersed in social media, things are different. For instance, I see a lot of athletes immediately get on social media after a match. In my view it is a very important time to reflect on the match and evaluate performance. But, many young athletes seem overly concerned with the likes and comments on social media. This can have a negative impact on their performance. MS Dhoni once wisely remarked, “It is important to play the sport and leave the rest to take care of itself.” That’s how it should be. In this age of social media overdrive, it is important that we keep distractions at bay and focus on the things we are good at. In my case, I know how to coach, how to help players improve. Whenever I face challenges, I go back to the basics and do what I know best. It has always yielded positive outcomes. With continuous abuse heaped on us, we lose hope. Losing hope and motivation is the worst thing that can happen to us. Our enemies say things to us in a way that we are forced to give up and lose the motivation that has made us who we are. You cannot let your enemies push you into a position where you are forced to give up. The moot point is that as professionals, we have a certain set of skills. It is important we continue to use those skills and do what we know.

Foreign lands turn hunting ground for CXO search companies
Executive search firms say about 30-50% of their CXO searches in the last six to 18 months have been looking at potential global candidates, up from about 10-15% a few years ago. There is a preference for returning Indians fuelled by a push from companies and boards amid an increasing need for professionals with a keen knowledge and understanding of global markets. An acute demandsupply mismatch in the leadership talent market and the need to hire for specialist roles in high-tech manufacturing, automotive, electric vehicles (EVs), pharmaceuticals, chemicals, hardcore product engineering and services industries have underscored the trend, said experts. “About one in three leadership searches that we conduct today are global, not limited to India, reaching out to people in Singapore, US, Canada, London, and Middle East, showing the rising demand for the global talent pool of Indians,” said Puneet Pratap Singh, partner-in-charge at Heidrick & Struggles India.

FMCG companies: Buyers aware, sellers beware
FMCG companies navigate the inflation challenge, innovate to stay ahead of the competition and adopt an omni-channel approach to reach more buyers, they have a looming risk which they need to address. Increasingly, FMCG products are coming under buyer and regulatory scrutiny. Recently, Nestle India's shares plummeted by up to 5.4%, reaching a day’s low of Rs 2,409.55 on the BSE. This significant drop followed the revelation that the multinational FMCG giant adds sugar to baby food products sold in India, a practice not followed in Europe and the UK. This is the second time in the last nine years that Nestle India has come under the spotlight for quality issues. In 2015, its instant noodles brand Maggi was under the scanner after excess lead and MSG were found in some samples collected from Uttar Pradesh. While stock meltdown and regulatory action are short-term risks, losing consumer trust is a long-term and bigger risk for an FMCG company. Laterly, a number of cases have come up where individuals and governments have brought FMCG products under the spotlight. What a spate of incidents tells

McGurk, Stubbs propel DC to 257/4 against MI
Fraser-McGurk gave the scorching Delhi heat competition with a sizzling 27-ball 84 that powered Delhi Capitals to a massive 257 for four against Mumbai Indians in an IPL contest here on Saturday. While McGurk sparkled upfront, Tristan Stubbs dazzled with an unbeaten 48 off 25 balls at the death overs as DC put up a superlative batting effort to register their highest-ever score in IPL. Opening for DC for the second time this season, the 22-year-old Fraser-McGurk equalled his own record for the fastest fifty this season getting the milestone off just 15 balls after the hosts were put in to bat by MI. With McGurk in the middle, it was raining boundaries and sixes at the rather small Arun Jaitley Stadium. He hit 11 fours and six maximums. He got 19 runs off the first over bowled by Luke Wood, setting the tone as he skilfully exploited the field restrictions in the powerplay to nab 92 runs.
