British Steel’s Scunthorpe closure puts thousands of jobs at risk
British Steel has decided to shut both blast furnaces and steelmaking operations in Scunthorpe, which poses a risk to eliminate up to 2,700 positions within the workforce. The Chinese ownership group Jingye has determined that the furnace closures are essential because they face financial challenges and increasing environmental expenses. British Steel received strong opposition from worker unions, who believe this action will trigger devastating effects on the steel industry together with damaging jobs.

What's wrong with Nvidia-backed cloud services provider? Report claims CoreWeave plans to reduce US IPO
CoreWeave plans to reduce the size of its U.S. initial public offering and price the shares below range, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday, as per a report. The Nvidia-backed cloud services provider is now looking to sell 37.5 million shares and price them below the range at $40 apiece, the source added, requesting anonymity discussing confidential information. The sale would fetch up to $1.5 billion, Reuters reported. The listing is being closely watched as a test for the fragile U.S. IPO market and a gauge of whether investor enthusiasm for AI newcomers remains strong or is waning. CoreWeave and some existing investors had initially aimed to sell 49 million shares in the offering priced between $47 and $55 each to raise as much as $2.7 billion. The company did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

Some Ferrari cars to get costlier by 10% in the US, thanks to Trump's 25% auto tariffs
US auto tariffs, the luxury carmaker said. Ferrari said it would stick largely to its financial targets for this year, according to a report in news agency Reuters. The new levies on cars and light trucks will take effect on April 3. Ferrari announced that pricing for models imported before April 2 will remain unchanged. However, starting from that date, “new import conditions will be partially reflected in pricing,” with increases of up to 10%. This means the Maranello, Italy-based automaker will absorb part of the 25% tariff hike introduced by Trump on Wednesday. «The commercial terms will remain unchanged for orders of all models imported before April 2, 2025, and for orders of the following three families — Ferrari 296, SF90 and Roma — regardless the import date. For the current remaining models, the new import conditions will be partially reflected on pricing, up to a maximum 10 per cent increase,» the company said in a statement. RBI February rate cut sees mixed transmission: Deposit rates fall while lending rates stay high
Reserve Bank of India’s first rate cut in five years into deposit and lending rates were mixed in February. While banks lowered rates on new deposits, they did not offer lower rates to new loan borrowers immediately. Data released Thursday by the RBI showed that the weighted average domestic term deposit rate on fresh deposits of banks fell to 6.48% in February from 6.56% a month ago. On the outstanding deposits, the rate remained unchanged at 7.02%. At the same time, the weighted average lending rate (WALR) on fresh rupee loans of banks increased to 9.40% in February from 9.32% in the previous month. This was because MCLR had gone up by 5 basis points in February. In the subsequent month, one-year median MCLR fell by 5 bps to 9.00% in March, the RBI data showed.

'Lord' Shardul Thakur gets Purple Cap: From unsold to getting the , how the all-rounder dismantled SRH's destructive batting line-up
IPL 2024 auction, Shardul Thakur made a roaring comeback, proving his worth on the big stage. The pacer, who went without a bid initially, was later roped in by Lucknow Super Giants as a replacement—and he wasted no time in making an impact. Facing the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s explosive batting lineup, Thakur delivered a stunning performance, rattling the opposition with his fiery spell. His crucial breakthroughs by getting rid of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan dismantled SRH’s top order, restricting them from running away with the game. He went on to pick Abhinav Manohar in the 17th over, getting the purple cap with 5 wickets in the season already. Known for his ability to strike at crucial moments, Thakur’s spell was a game-changer, as he also was on a hat-trick in the powerplay itself, sending Kishan, who scored a ton in the previous match, for a golden duck. Thakur’s brilliance was not a one-off show. In the previous match against Delhi Capitals, he had already signaled his return to form by picking up two key wickets, helping Lucknow tighten their grip on the contest.

Car rental firms Hertz, Avis zoom as tariffs seen hurting new-vehicle demand
Shares of highly shorted Hertz and Avis Budget Group surged on Thursday as U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to slap a 25% tariff on imported vehicles raised prospects of consumers opting for car rentals instead of buying expensive new cars. The new levies could add thousands of dollars to the cost of an average vehicle in the United States. The American Automotive Policy Council said it is «critical» that the tariffs are implemented in a way that avoids price hikes for consumers.

Scammers pose as police, trick 78-year-old into losing Rs 13 lakh life savings in digital heist
scammers posing as police officers, who extorted Rs 13 lakh from him, reported TOI. The fraudsters falsely accused him of money laundering and threatened his arrest within two days. Ratan Singh, an English teacher at a coaching centre and resident of Pandav Nagar, described the harrowing experience in his complaint. It all started on December 19 when he received a call while preparing tea before heading to work. The caller warned that his phone number would be disconnected within two hours. The call was then transferred to someone impersonating a policeman, who handed it over to a person claiming to be a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). “They created a scene that made me believe the call was legitimate. Then the torture began,” Ratan recounted, said the report. The scammers escalated the situation by telling Ratan he was implicated in a money laundering case. They claimed his property would be sealed, and he would be arrested within two days unless he complied. They instructed him to provide his bank details, including the balance in his accounts, and demanded that he transfer his money to their accounts to avoid arrest and property confiscation. According to TOI, to heighten the pressure, the scammers told Ratan he was under surveillance and asked for personal information, including his location and battery percentage. They warned him not to inform anyone, threatening to seize his house if he did. Fearing the repercussions, Ratan did not tell his wife or daughter about the calls.

Will HAL finally gain speed after getting GE engines for Tejas following multi-year delay?
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is gearing up to ramp up production of the Tejas Mark-1A, India's indigenously developed fighter jet, after years of delays worsened by issues with engine supplies from the United States, according to a TOI report on Thursday. The first of the 99 engine shipments arrived on March 26, 2025, after General Electric's (GE) aerospace division overcame significant challenges, including reactivating the F404 production line, which had been dormant for five years. This marks a major milestone, but HAL still faces numerous challenges in meeting the ambitious delivery timelines for the fighter aircraft, which is crucial for India’s military preparedness. In response to the ongoing delays, HAL has intensified its efforts to scale up production, with three production lines in operation, said the TOI report. The company’s facilities in Bengaluru and Nashik are expected to play a crucial role in increasing production capacity. According to the report, HAL is confident that it can scale up to a rate of 20 Tejas per year, with plans to further boost production to 24 units annually.
