Language purists in Germany are up in arms over what they see as a linguistic invasion of the Anglophone apostrophe used in the genitive case to indicate ownership or possession, which is called Deppenapostroph — idiot's apostrophe — in German. Earlier this year, the official body that regulates the use of Standard High German relaxed the traditional proscription of the apostrophe to denote belonging. Following this, the new edition of the Council for German Orthography's style guide, which prescribes grammatical correctness for schools and government agencies in the country, Austria, and German-speaking Switzerland, permits the usage of Eva's Blumenladen (Eva's Flower shop) and Peter's Taverne (Peter's Bar). The official recognition given to the genitive apostrophe is bowing to the inevitable. Signs displaying 'Rosi's Bar' and 'Kati's Kiosk' have been commonplace in Germany, though according to tradition they ought to be 'Rosis Bar' and 'Katis Kiosk'.

It has, however, cast a shadow on several other sectors—it has pushed up the prices of poultry feed and cooking oils and hit the wallets of consumers and the profits of oilseed farmers.

The price is steeper at Rs 3,750 for a 100 ml bottle. The “1942” in the brand name, in case you did not make the connection, is Bachchan’s year of birth. A new range was launched a couple of years ago, on his 80th birthday. Unfortunately, the perfumes don’t seem to be anywhere close to being the hot sellers that one would expect from Big B. They exist, but without much fanfare or franchise —a pale shadow of the legend they represent. I visited Nueva, Virat Kohli’s restaurant in Delhi. It was nice but it wasn’t exceptional. There is also One8 Commune now open in multiple locations. I have read mixed reviews of the restaurant, and those that have been there have provided only lukewarm feedback.

Cyclone Fengal. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister MK Stalin assessed the preparedness and precautionary measures. The Chief Minister also visited the Chennai State Operation Center, accompanied by state ministers KN Nehru and KKSSR Ramachandran. The Chief Minister interacted with the District Collectors of Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and other districts via video conferencing to assess the on-ground conditions. He assured that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and implementing necessary precautionary measures. Addressing the media, CM Stalin said that the Tamil Nadu government had been conducting continuous inspections and taking steps to mitigate the impact.

«In these five months, we have disbursed Rs 18,000 crore towards social pensions to 64 lakh people. We have increased the pension from Rs 3000 per month (during the previous YSRCP regime) to Rs 4000,» he said. The CM further said his government is aiming to attract Rs 4 lakh crore investments creating four crore job opportunities in the next five months.
