Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday said the Congress would work to establish a fair, balanced and strong judiciary that is not under pressure.
Gandhi Vadra is in Wayanad, Kerala, on a two-day visit to thank voters for electing her with a huge margin. On the first day of her tour, she addressed voters at Thiruvambady assembly constituency in Kozhikode district and Nilambur, Wandoor and Ernad assembly constituencies in Malappuram district, pledging that she would not disappoint them.
The 52-year-old AICC leader, who succeeded Rahul Gandhi as Wayanad MP, accused the BJP-led NDA of weakening the democratic institutions, and vowed to work to strengthen them. “We want to strengthen all the values of our Constitution.”
She repeated the charge the Congress consistently made against the BJP during the run up to the November 13 bypolls in Wayanad that the national party gave all the powers and resources to its “friends,” while adding that the Congress wanted to give this power to people. Though Vadra did not take names, the Congress has disrupted the Parliamentary proceedings pressing for a debate on the US charges against the Adani Group.
The first-time MP, who had campaigned only for others earlier, said the NDA regime was destroying the Constitutional institutions. “Our fight is for the basic values of the Constitution.”
