Karnataka: 3 Ministers revive talk of additional Dy CM posts after Congress party’s subpar performance in LS polls
Deputy CM in Karnataka are back in the ruling Congress with three ministers talking about it openly even as the party is licking its wounds from a subpar performance in the recent Lok Sabha polls ending with just nine out of 28 seats. This has revived discussions on the subject as a few ministers had, in the run up to the polls, sought community-wise posts of Dy CM arguing that such a move would help the party electorally. The party rejecting those demands and now ending up with about half the number of seats it had targeted has given new ammunition to some community leaders. Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi, Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna and Minority Affairs Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan have at various fora, aired their opinion in public, exerting pressure on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The first two belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) while Khan is a Muslim. They have sought the party to revive discussions while Khan said Muslims have desired a Dy CM post for the community.

Taxpayers can amend sales return form before GST payment
GST taxpayers will now have the option to amend outward supply or sales return form GSTR-1 before payment of taxes for a month or quarter. The GST Council in its meeting on Saturday had recommended providing a new optional facility by way of Form GSTR-1A to facilitate taxpayers to amend the details in Form GSTR-1 for a tax period and/or to declare additional details. GSTR-1A will, however, have to be filed before filing of return in GSTR-3B for the said tax period. This will facilitate the taxpayer to add any particulars of supply of the current tax period missed out in reporting in form GSTR-1 of the said tax period or to amend any particulars already declared in GSTR-1 of the current tax period (including those declared in IFF, for the first and second months of a quarter, if any, for quarterly taxpayers), to ensure that correct liability is auto-populated in GSTR-3B.

AI will eliminate certain roles, but will create more jobs than it eliminates: Deloitte AI exec
AI will replace people with people, contrary to the common narrative, Deloitte's AI Executive Rohit Tandon said, emphasising that the future belongs to AI-human collaboration, not replacement, as he envisions a revolutionary era where technology empowers, rather than replaces, the workforce. In an interview with PTI, Tandon, Managing Director, AI and Insights Practice Leader, Deloitte LLP, said AI will not snatch jobs, but will simply do away with some of the easier jobs, and create new roles. «AI will, with people, replace people… It's not just AI replacing people. You still need humans in the loop,» he said. Tandon said the same kind of fear of job roles getting wiped out existed when IT, technology, and computers came into the scenario.

Shorts as office-wear is no longer as unthinkable as it once was
As summer heats up, vitriolic debates in the US are peaking. I’m talking about the rift between men who wear shorts to office and those who consider these a workwear abomination. On the West Coast, especially in the tech sector, wearing shorts to work is perhaps unremarkable.

Chinese telecom equipment meant for Pak army ends up in hands of terrorists in J-K
Encounters with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir have led to the seizure of highly encrypted Chinese telecom gear "Ultra Set", an equipment used by the Pakistani army that has ended up in the hands of terror groups, officials said. This has also raised concerns over undetected infiltrations from across the Line of Control and terrorists potentially residing in the outskirts of cities and villages, they said. The seizure of the mobile handsets used by foreign terrorists, primarily from Pakistan and its occupied Kashmir, indicate that terror groups are receiving training, weapons and ammunition from state actors in Pakistan, said the officials aware of the matter.

Four news channels off air in Andhra Pradesh post polls; YSRCP reaches out to TRAI
news channels have gone off air at several places in Andhra Pradesh following the declaration of the results of the Assembly and Parliamentary elections with an opposition YSRCP Parliamentarian alleging coercion by the state government leading to them being blocked. Allegations of channels- TV9, NTV, 10TV and Sakshi TV- being blocked have been levelled against the NDA government, comprising TDP, BJP and Janasena. YSRCP Rajya Sabha member S Niranjan Reddy complained to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) over the alleged blocking of these four vernacular news channels by the government. In a recent letter to TRAI, Reddy claimed the Andhra Pradesh Cable TV Operators Association took these four channels off air due to alleged coercion by the TDP-led government in the state.

Expectation is that reforms will continue, but it may not be as simple as that: Ketan Dalal
Will reforms take a backseat? We now have a BJP/Modi-led coalition Government in place, and several key ministries are in the same hands as they were earlier, including finance. The reality, however, is that this is a coalition Government with the support of JDU and TDP and other allies, and the question is whether, in this context, several critical and long pending reforms will take a back seat.

Stocks to buy: Granules and Suzlon among top bets, here's why
Indian stock market: Nifty has been hovering within the 23300 to 23600 range, indicating indecisiveness, which sets the stage for a very volatile monthly expiry. A decisive move above 23600 might take the index towards 24000 in the short term, whereas failure to hold above 23300 might trigger panic in the market. Below 23300, the Nifty might fall towards 22750 in the short term. The BankNifty index witnessed a volatile trading session but ended on a flat note, highlighting the evident tussle between buyers and sellers.

Centre may prepay market loans taken to compensate states for GST revenue loss during Covid years
GST revenue loss in FY21 and FY22 by November 2025, four months ahead of its scheduled repayment, an official has said. The full repayment of the market borrowings is expected earlier than the previously calculated timeline of March 2026. The issue is expected to be taken up for discussion in the next meeting of the GST Council in August, the official added. The compensation cess was initially brought in for five years to make up the revenue shortfall of states, following the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The compensation cess expired in June 2022, but the amount collected through the levy is being used to repay the interest and principal of the Rs 2.69 lakh crore that the Centre had borrowed during COVID-19.

Education system handed over to 'mafia' by Modi govt: Priyanka Gandhi
NEET-UG, alleging that it has handed over the entire education system to the «mafia» and the «corrupt». Her reaction came a day after the Union education ministry set up a panel to review the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA) — the body responsible for conducting the tests — and recommend exam reforms. The Centre on Saturday also shunted out the agency's Director General Subodh Singh and handed over the probe into the irregularities in medical entrance exam NEET-UG to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In a post on X, Priyanka Gandhi said the NEET-UG question paper was «leaked» while the NEET-PG, UGC-NET and CSIR-NET exams were «cancelled».
