India lodged a «strong protest» with the Canadian High Commission in Delhi opposing the organisation of 'Citizen's Courts' by Khalistactivists in Canada. «We have strongly protested at the Canadian High Commission here. Such courts or gatherings are not helpful at all. Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the West Bengal government to take steps to ensure that people displaced due to alleged post-poll violence in the state return to their homes. It directed the police to keep a strict vigil in the areas where violence allegedly took place and ensure that such incidents do not recur. The directive was issued by a division bench presided by Justice Harish Tandon while hearing petitions regarding allegations of violence in West Bengal after the Lok Sabha elections. The bench is likely to pronounce its directions on extension of deployment of central forces in West Bengal in the written order which will be posted in the high court's website.

Election Commission on Friday said it has initiated preparations for forthcoming assembly elections in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand with updation of electoral rolls in these states along with that in Jammu and Kashmir. NEW DELHI:India's pension fund regulator plans to launch a balanced life-cycle fund for people who want more equity allocation in their portfolio in the September quarter, said Deepak Mohanty, chairperson, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on Friday.“The fund will be an additional option in the auto choice where equity allocation can be maximum up to 50%, but the tapering would start only after 45 years of age. This will help subscribers accumulate more corpus in their individual retirement fund," Mohanty said on the sidelines of the PFRDA's Annual Felicitation Program for Atal Pension Yojana (APY) in New Delhi.Life-cycle funds are asset-allocation funds in which the share of each asset class is automatically adjusted to lower risk as the desired retirement date approaches.Currently, the National Pension System (NPS) offers two choices—active and auto—to subscribers for creating the pension portfolio.

GTRI on Friday suggested a host of reforms like increasing GST exemption limit for firms with up to Rs 1.5 crore turnover, reducing the number of slabs, and doing away with state-wise registration to make GST more efficient, business-friendly, and contributing to economic growth. As the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) celebrates its 7th anniversary, having launched on July 1, 2017, it has become the world's largest platform for indirect taxes with over 1.46 crore registrations, Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) said. In FY24, GST collections reached Rs 20.18 lakh crore (USD 243.13 billion), with 29.85 per cent from imports, 26.92 per cent from inter-state supplies, and 43.23 per cent from within-state supplies. The dominance of within-state supplies highlights the need to simplify GST rules to promote inter-state trade, the global trade research body said.

According to the Weekly Statistical Supplement released by the RBI, Foreign currency assets (FCAs) decreased by $2.1 billion to $574.2 billion. Expressed in dollar terms, the FCAs include the effect of appreciation or depreciation of non-US units like the euro, pound and yen held in the foreign exchange reserves.
