No one wants their fake teeth to look fake anymore
For every TikToker or reality show cast member who wants their pearly whites to be glaringly noticeable, there is a growing wave of people who would prefer the exact opposite. Some patients are no longer looking for veneers, dentist-created coverings that fit over the tooth enamel, to turn their teeth uniform and blindingly white. Instead they want to polish little imperfections, but not obscure them completely.

Japan is living in the shadow of the megaquake that could kill 320,000, trigger 10m tsunami waves & cause $1.5 tn damage
Japan is to live with the risk of a devastating earthquake at any time. Usually, however, people tend to view that threat in the abstract. It’s kind of like thinking about death — I know I’ll die someday, but I hope it won’t be today. And so far, at least, I keep getting lucky. Until we don’t. Thursday’s announcement from Japanese authorities, warning of an increased risk of a long-feared megaquake, forced citizens to consider the very real and immediate danger of an event that would devastate the country and upend life as we know it.

Several heatwave indices failed to capture severity of extreme weather: Study
heatwaves have become more frequent and intense, emerging as a significant contributor to heat-related deaths. Researchers said that this underscores the urgency of recognising their impact and severity. In the study, published in the journal Nexus, the researchers from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University analysed six available heat wave indices, including the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index and Canada's humidex. WBGT index was first developed in the 1950s by the US military to prevent heat-related illnesses in training camps.

VCs crowd deal street on quick commerce, D2C success
quick commerce and aggressive demand for newer direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands aided by speedy deliveries on platforms like Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart are fuelling dealmaking in early-to-mid-stage D2C brands, several executives and investors told ET. New brands have scaled much faster than anticipated due to the quick-commerce channel and that is attracting investor interest. Kids gift brand Tuco Intelligent is in talks to raise new capital from Fireside Ventures, while Peak XV Partners is likely to pick a stake in healthy bread maker The Health Factory, sources said. Gourmet Garden, a specialised organic fresh supplies brand, has started talks to raise around $10 million from a mix of investors.

US personnel wounded in attack against base in Iraq, officials say
U.S. personnel were injured in an attack against a military base in Iraq on Monday, U.S. officials told Reuters, as the Middle East braced for a possible new wave of attacks by Iran and its allies following last week's killing of senior members of militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah. Two Katyusha rockets were fired at al Asad airbase in western Iraq, two Iraqi security sources said. One Iraqi security source said the rockets fell inside the base. It was unclear whether the attack was linked to threats by Iran to retaliate over the killings. On Wednesday, Iran said the U.S. bears responsibility in the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran because of its support for Israel.
